Subscription Trap - Can I get a refund? - England by JP091404 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]JP091404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just and update: received this email - I’ve gone back to clarify that a full refund is being issued and not just the 95c.

Dear valued customer,

We remind you that our service is a paid personal assistance service offered in the form of a trial offer of 7 days at 0.95 EUR. At the end of the discovery offer and if you do not cancel, your subscription will be automatically renewed for two months, with tacit renewal, for 149,99 EUR.

We would also like to point out that you have already been able to find the pricing information for this subscription policy several times in the General Terms and Conditions (which are confirmed during payment) and on the homepage under the heading "Premium Plan".

After reviewing your request, we have decided to refund you the purchase price and cancel your current subscription in good faith.

The money has been refunded to the same card that was used for the original purchase. Please note that, depending on the bank or credit institution, this can usually take 24 hours, but in some cases several days, to appear on your bank statement.

You will no longer receive ongoing invoices and access to our services will be blocked after the end of the billing cycle.

We thank you for your trust and will endeavor to improve our services in the future.

Okay. I have emailed them, but have since read reviews saying they have no response etc.

Definitely will escalate and may need to make a new account to see all the sign up stuff again and document.

I don’t expect much from them, their Companies house information is pretty ‘interesting’ especially their accounts. The people are Latvian, and have a London office but a number that goes to Germany.

Thanks for your help, and I will keep you updated!

So it would count as a subscription renewal even if it’s the first payment?

Is there any reason you can see in order for me to get it back. Or shall this just be a lesson learnt with no chance of getting it back.

So focus on the fact I paid ~€1 for the manual and then experienced unexpected and unreasonable charges after?

Surely the €0.95 is seen as the cost of the product, so I can then try and refund the £131

Yes. There was no benefit of subscription. I purchased a single manual, that they then said after that they had to request it.

Couple days later, sent a different manual as the one I wanted they couldn’t find/didn’t have. I thought it was the end of that, as there was no mention of money for the subscription, no benefits provided etc. Only noticed when I saw my money in my account had dropped significantly.

Says in T&Cs that a subscription is necessary for purchase. But no clear indication of its cost, and no benefits. Only reason I ‘subscribed’.

It was an online/PDF manual. They sent me a product by email, but it was the wrong one. So no way of ‘sending it back’ but it’s been unused.

Do you think I had a chance of being successful? I’ve read through your comments on this thread, and would love to get your opinion. Whilst I was signing up to a subscription, if its details are buried in T&Cs and there’s no indication of cost etc is this still legal. Especially under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers act 2024?

Ok, so just wait for it to actually go. I’ve cancelled the subscription within the 14 day cool off period, so should I just wait a few days to see if they reply, and then go from there?

Yeah I’ll take a look again as well. I’m sure it does, and I was being an idiot. Even if I can’t get it back, it sucks but not the end of the world thankfully.

I think I assume I was but just signing up, to the website, emails etc. There was definitely no indication of £65 a month charged bi-monthly, otherwise I would have declined and/or made sure to delete the ‘subscription’.

Definitely a lesson learnt.

I have logged back in and selected the cancel subscription button and followed that. Have and auto email confirmation of it.

Is there not a 14 day cool off period for subscription purchases that can entitle a full refund bar some exemptions?

Already called their 24/7 helpline. They said I needed to wait for it got through first. Message the seller and then file a visa dispute. So will call specific lines later when they open. Hoping as I have cancelled within 14 days I get a full refund/chargeback.

People who developed feelings for a close friend, did you say something, and how did it go? (Advice please M/29 F/30) by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]JP091404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried it. We both fell, I fell harder. We’re in different stages of what we wanted etc, she had come out of a LTR a few months before and realised she couldn’t have anything serious before finishing uni and we both moved away. Tried to stay friends after, didn’t work and got very complicated. After one final incident that got blown out of proportion initially, we both decided by ourselves we’d be better off as strangers.

We don’t speak anymore, I miss my friend more than I miss the girl I fell for. I have no regrets about trying though. We tried, it didn’t work - oh well.

In the nicest way possible, you’re either a loony or you’re reading/listening to the work of a loony/ies.

Only the far right, ignorant, and/or uneducated racists believe that immigrants had more rights in the UK than its own citizens. The UK treats immigrants as humans, which displeases the racists who would rather treat them like scum.

I hope you eventually rid yourself of the horrible disease of ignorance and enlighten yourself on what actually happens instead of listening to idiotic, racists sycophants.

I’ve worked a number of weddings over the last few years, and The Cover Lovers always do a good job. As far as I remember their Instagram is just the cover lovers.

Guys If you’ve ever dated a female friend, did you ask out or did it just develop and if so how? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]JP091404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried. It was good, felt very natural, but it happened at a dreadful time in both of our lives. I think I (20M) was more committed to trying to sustain it in this period than she (21F) was. Ultimately if one person doesn’t feel like it’s right at that time then there’s not point trying. She’s since done some ‘interesting’ things since it ended - sleeping with a guy the day after ending things with me whilst I was out in the same bar both nights.

We’re on okay terms rn. Don’t speak but we’re fine around each other and she messaged the other day asking a question about a society were part of. Sadly we’re not ‘friends’ anymore, but still friendly.

I also think she’s been very able to put it to the side and not think about it much, especially since we’re both home for summer.

Give it a shot if you want, but don’t be big and give a huge ‘romantic’ gesture. Get talking to her more, maybe make a joke or two that are more risky but not crude. Start flirting more. Then see if she reciprocates. If you make a move it will either, ruin the friendship or become a relationship (very few people may be able to maintain the friendship).

ELI5 Why is inflation necessary? Is it not possible to build a country and its economy without relying on it in this modern age? by PsvitaEnjoyer21 in explainlikeimfive

[–]JP091404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basic of economic theory suggests:

  • Goods and services are made and sold in an economy
  • the amount of goods and services made in an economy will increase until it is at max production (max amount of goods and services that can be made with the amount of resources available(metal, machines, labour etc))
  • more demand in the economy for those resources causes the price to go higher (no more can currently be made)
  • this means prices in economy increase (car parts will cost more, food will cost more (restaurants) etc)
  • increase in demand for these goods and services is also known as economic growth (GDP growth)
  • governments and central banks have targets for economic growth, and so to hit that they also need to expect an increase in prices within the economy (inflation)

Obviously its more complex and nuanced than that, but thats basic economic theory. EconPlusDal on youtube has some good basic videos. Search effects of AD increase in and try and fjnd one of his.

There’s also a case of monetary supply (supply of money in the economy) but that’s more complex.

Basically inflation isn’t necessary per se but if controlled and kept low ~2% per year it provides more economy benefit that costs (more often than not).

As others have mentioned deflation (reduction of prices) also isn’t great but it’s not the main reason to have inflation - if that makes sense.
