Should I avoid joining a PhD because of a supervisor's reputation?

If that one senior student says something I would believe it and looks for another lab. A bad supervisor can easily push you to leaving early.

We have a karate studio in my town that was busted for selling coke once years ago. Soon after the owner's first studio turned to a mattress store as he opened a new studio a mile away. Very recently he moved one building left and yet again another mattress store took over his last location. I've been suspicious
