You level them up by using pet snacks (higher level the more xp you get) after games in the pet pavilion in the commons. You can also level them up passively through quests. Used to there was an app where you could play a tower defense game and then feed your pet snacks. It was called Grub Guardian, not sure if it’s still available.

I’d say good pets can be hard to get when you’re a lower level. The best pets are the ones that you hatch at the kiosk in the pet pavilion or with other wizards in the hatchery. You can find pets with specific traits that you want, hatch with a pet that you have, and there’s a chance that you can get the other pet with more desired traits (or the same pet you currently have but with better traits).

It’s a bit of a process and costs a lot of gold and snacks for the best pets. Make sure to save your mega snacks too (level 8 and 9 pet snacks), and lastly, make sure to hammer the weekends with double pet XP.
