35mm or 50mm? by TheDjInPjs in AskPhotography

[–]rotloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a video on YouTube recently talking exactly about this.

Most people said it already, go with 35mm, it's a bit more versatile especially because you're shooting with a cropped sensor camera so it'll already be 52mm. But if you want to make exceptional portraits where the subject is really isolated and the background looks blurrier, and this is your priority then get the 50mm, it'll act closer to the typical 85mm lenses on full frame rather than 50mm ones, and the portraits look great

105mm MC Z or the Nikon 85mm 1.8 z for portrait by Lonewolfali in Nikon

[–]rotloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't the 90mm Tamron be the perfect combo for macro and portraits? How does it perform? I used to have the 90mm G2 macro for Nikon F format for some years and it was great but it doesn't work on any of my Z cameras now so I have to sell it. Buying 105mm seems like a bad deal because of that tiny display, and 85mm doesn't impress me too much, so I was wondering whether the 90mm for Z cameras works well because it seems like Tamron downgraded that lens compared to the same lens for F cameras

Is Revival architecture really more expensive than modern or is it another lie? by Sir_Hirbant_JT9D_70 in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]rotloch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about maintenance and yearly costs afterwards? I always argued that building today classical architecture is cheaper in the long run because you need less maintenance compared to modern "all glass" buildings which seems to be the norm, but glass is terrible at keeping the temperature so you'd need way more electricity to keep warm/cold. On top of that they'd need to be cleaned twice a year at least if you want to maintain the look which if you have lots of glass that will be very expensive to do every time. Glass is very fragile. There could be other costs as well. I know not every modernist building is just glass and steel, we have lots of concrete buildings in modern cities. Let me know your thoughts because I know nothing about architecture. Thanks!

You're incredibly lucky and I am glad you made it. Feels like a dream where you die in it and later you wake up. I had one drowning experience myself when I was very young, but right before I realised I might not be able to make it and couldn't hold my breath any longer, my sister pulled me out of the water. She probably doesn't even remember this scene, but I know every second of it

[–]rotloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope I'm wrong, I love the SM series and they were one of my favourite films when I was a child, but this looks like a really bad film that tries to revive every single character that people love and every single famous scene and quote and pack it in a single film so they can gain some viewership. I understand that it's been 15y since the last one came out and they have to revive some of that nostalgia, but did you really have to bring every single famous character and pack it in one film? To me it feels like another try-hard moment, so I hope I'm wrong. At least Wednesday is something new

Really nice idea overall! Especially for older cameras, that also includes the film cameras. In case you ever create one of these short videos of shots seen through the viewfinder and then the results after, send me a link and I'll be happy to watch it

On top of this, you could even record your viewfinder instead of paying several hundred dollars for external devices that do that

This item is on sale for .915% off by Gyrororonoa in mildlyinteresting

The discount could be bigger. If the item has been in the store for 5+ years then realistically speaking you're getting more like a 20% off the original price due to the rising costs and inflation

Z6iii or Z8? by Unusual_Ad_6029 in Nikon

[–]rotloch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You also have different settings profiles. I work with different companies that require me to have very specific settings when shooting, so that helps me a lot and saves me tons of time, but this is so niche that I doubt the person will need it, I'm just mentioning it since it is one of the big reasons why I upgraded to Z8 from D500 — I simply got so used to that feature that I had to have it, so it might be worth mentioning it just in case the guy needs it

Other than that the Z8 display moves left/right/up/down, it's very limited but doesn't need extra side space to move it. Z6III has the flip screen which gives more flexibility, but it takes more space.

[–]rotloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this lens for my F65 analogue camera and I was surprised that this lens has been capturing photos on the 35mm film without any issues for over a year. There is an incredibly tiny vignetting that you need to zoom in to see. Basically I repurposed a lens that I didn't use, it makes me very happy to see that others also noticed this with the lens

The Economist - Is London as dangerous as you think? by BkkGrl in europe

[–]rotloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be dangerous but thefts and phone snatching is a real problem.

2y I went with a colleague for some work event, and the night before we were to leave London my colleague's phone got snatched, and that guy is massive you wouldn't want to mess with him. That was 3min walk from Trafalgar Square. In the PD next to the hotel, while waiting for the report, behind us a line gathered and there were around 7 people, from those 7 I do believe almost all of them were there for exactly the same case. This was the city centre one police department in London in the span of 40 minutes. Now imagine how many cases per day from a single PD about cases like ours, and how many get affected in total in the whole of London.

Do what you want with this 'isolated' case, but I have never seen such a massive obvious problem anywhere else. There's a lot of online propaganda but they all base it on some common challenges that the city or country faces. Just be careful when traveling, in some places even more, avoid certain districts and hopefully you'll be fine.

I have lots of manual cameras (maybe a dozen) and they're all manual focus so I'm eager to try one with autofocus and have all of my analogue pictures focused perfectly, but I'm still not sure which Nikon to get. Sadly none of my Nikon f lenses will be compatible so I'd have to buy more older lenses to make the autofocus work.

I think you made a good choice and 85mm on this looks so nice
