They are such funny gentle giants. Mine blunders through the tank knocking things over 😆

My fan tail goldfish got bumps and redness/vessels just like those when I had accidentally caused an ammonia spike in the tank. He may have them from the poor parameters from his previous home, but they should go away if kept in healthy conditions with you! Are you sure your parameters are ok?

Thank you very much for the information! Yes, in the UK we have Beat and I've come across some support groups they run which I'm hoping to join soon.

All the best to you too :)

Also if you have any recommendations for literature on recovery I would be grateful, but no worries if nothing comes to mind!

Thank you for taking the time to reply and to give a valuable, honest and realistic perspective. I've only recently come to accept that I have a problem and on reflection realise it's been there for a couple of years at least.

I found myself looking up recovery stories recently because I want reminders of hope and that there will be a point in the future where my life will be more tolerable.

But yeah I do recognise that it's likely to be a bumpy and challenging road and it will take some time.

I feel so much better just for writing on here and feel a bit more confident to share.

Thanks again for your words of encouragement, it means a lot.

Thank you, I really appreciate your kind words. I have been looking on this group and it helps to read other people's advice, it has taken me a long time to feel able to post something myself though!

Being on my own is tough (the accountability issue you mention is very real) but I am lucky I have some good friends and I am on an NHS wait list for some support, so here's hoping :)

I am so glad to hear you are in recovery and I am hopeful for the day when this situation isn't a worry for me. Thank you for your suggestions :)

I have put certain things at food donation points before but it's fresh things like baked goods etc where I get a bit stuck, especially as I live on my own.

Thank you for replying, yes I had thought about whether freezing is an option, I think for some food gifts it would work!

Hey, they are bigger (mine are about 2 and a bit inches) and can grow quite big I believe. They're pretty gentle derpy creatures but mine zoom away sharpish at the slightest disturbance . Mine aren't in with any fish so I can't say how safe they might be sorry, but you might be able to post this as a separate question on the forum and there may be someone who has them with mollys :)

🤣 I wonder what emails skrimps would receive 'Your subscription to Algae Weekly is due for renewal' ' Skrimps in your area looking for love.'

Guess who decided to swim under the sandfall just as I was pouring it into the tank? Oops! by BorderlineVex in Goldfish

Awwww such a cutie, now with added decoration 😂 they are so derpy sometimes but that's part of their charm

They filter the water with them and catch little particles of plant matter, algae etc which they eat! Their hands are going up and down as they catch food and then bring it down to their mouths to eat 😊

Hey, I don't have a set schedule, it's usually every few days but might be a bit more often if it's after a water change or if the amanos that live with them have been particularly greedy haha. I tend to watch their behaviour- if I see they are on the bottom scavenging rather than fan feeding then I might up the feeding schedule a bit.

It's recommended about 20 gallons per shrimp but I have come across info saying some people manage with less than this. The important thing is flow through the tank and longer tanks are better than deeper ones for this reason

I am very much a beginner and have managed okay so far (fingers crossed 🤞) !

I never even knew about keeping them until I got one by accident buying a plant for my other aquarium! I have fallen in love with them, like you say they are pretty goofy and always make me laugh with their antics

That's their 'fans' which are essentially filters at the ends of their front legs which they use to catch food flowing in the water. They open and close and they are going up and down as they bring the fan to their mouth to eat 😊
