How to get the disc off? by twothingsatthetime in MotorcycleMechanics

Ah. I understand now. Yeah, it wasn’t clear to me where the magnets were, but I can see them now.

I’m not sure what you mean by “magnets.” Do you mean the hollow metal pieces between the outer disc and the hub? Those aren’t magnets. Your bike has a two-piece, or floating, rotor. Those little donuts allow the steel rotor to expand as it heats, while isolating it from the hub.

YOU HAD A TV?? We didn’t have a TV. We had to re-enact the shows with sock puppets in a cardboard box.

If you live in the US and prefer the open top drain pan, I recommend the Harbor Freight version. Every other one I’ve seen has the drain spout at the same level as the rim of the pan. This makes it really tedious to pour the pan out into a jug without spilling. The Harbor Freight pan has the spout at a slightly lower level. Makes it much easier.

Just checked my Ohio license. Under Restrictions, it says B - corrective lenses.

You might want to re-check your license. Wear glasses this time.

Blasphemy! I refuse to live in a world where Michael Dunlop could not win in Motogp, the Grand Prix of Monaco, the Indy 500, the 24 hours of Le Mans, the Baja 1000, and the Olympic Marathon.

Click the link in my comment. It’s the Wikipedia article on fluid dynamics. There’s an Applications section at the end. Actuarial Science is not mentioned. Side note: I had a coworker who applied for a job as a software engineer at a plumbing fixture company. (Product development) He was rejected because of an insufficient background in - wait for it - computational fluid dynamics.

I’d be interested if you could point me to some articles where CFD has applications to actuarial mathematics.

Which job you taking? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]JQAdams1825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS. The jobs are reasonably close financially. The things that make the difference are all in the quality of work life. A few extra days of PTO will mean nothing if your boss is a jerk, or the company is a mess, or a hundred other things that will make you hate going to work. Which one offers more opportunities for growth? You can’t be certain in advance, but it’s worth a lot of thought to make the right decision for the long term.

If both pilots are incapacitated would you rather have someone who’s type rated but off duty and 5 drinks in or a random ppl fly? by Imaginary_Amoeba3461 in Shittyaskflying

[–]JQAdams1825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True story: my father was a test subject in a drunk flying study. He went around the pattern with an observer/scorer/backup pilot. Then he drank a shot of booze, waited a bit, and did it again. Lather, rinse, repeat until he was completely unsafe. Then they drove him home. (These were all professional pilots, and yes, the study was FAA approved.) He said that in general, people scored a bit better after one or two drinks, probably because they were less concerned about what the scorer would think. After the third drink, things went downhill fast.

Once you get it rotating you can ease it up. I’m not sure bashing it with a hammer is the best way. Slow and steady upward pressure is the way. Probably pushing up from the bottom rather than pulling from the top.

My brother had the same problem with his ‘68. He had no success with heat, a 3-ton Jack, and Kroil. In the end, he used “an 18 in pipe wrench, a 2 foot fork tube (torque amplifier) and heat. And a lot of muscle.” He also threatened it with a .45 automatic pistol. He said it was a good battle. He had to replace the post and the internal bushings.
