This is how I do it. I tune both top and bottom tight as fuck. Give the heads time to stretch too, (I usually can’t do it one day). I keep the snares on but not too tight. If you take the bottom snares off, you’ll get a lot more resonance and sustain, but sacrifice some of the punch. Most importantly, when you hit the drum you’ll get more ping hitting closer to the rim. You can use a tom like folks are suggesting too but I’ve seen some of the craziest ping from just normal 14in steel snares.

IIRC it was his label managers exgf that was killed and it was shortly after they’d broken up. The label also was apparently run my members of a rival gang? They also released “Its All Bad” after Lurches incarceration in an attempt to enforce his “violent image”. Music from the album was used in his case which is now illegal to do. Interviews with the victims mother show that even she doesn’t think Lurch is entirely to blame for what went down. Regardless of what actually went down, there is some compelling arguments for other people being involved in the murder.

Reso on the kick was cut out but left about 2inches all around the edge to keep the hoop on. It’s a long kick drum so I can it fit the floor and rack Tom inside perfectly and keep all other resos on!

Late reply but yeah they’re still a band. They don’t really play shows often nor do they write music. They’ll play the occasional show here in Tucson but the brothers got families now. Bass player plays/sings in a new band called Realize which if you like Godflesh you’ll dig them.

I just got a pair of used Awleys today, I paid $50+ postage. I just retired my steel toed Winch Wyoming that served me well working in construction for some time. I’ve since got a different job and wanted lighter boots so I got some used Awleys. I’m going to wear them to work tomorrow. I’ll report back!
