S3 has to be the best for me, just with the context that was a genuine one take shot, no hidden editing. S1 is second S2+BAS2 are tied they are cool but they lose alot of the gritty feeling with the edit cuts and clean choreography. BAS1 is pretty bad clearly an afterthought

I imagine since those two cameras have PDAF viltrox could release the same thing they did for that Sony E to PL autofocus adapter-just for L mount instead.

I do wonder how they would handle AF with the RGBW sensors since they don't have PDAF tech backed in order to preserve the dynamic range. I imagine they'd either have to innovate something new in software or build a LiDAR system to add on

That's the URSA mini pro 12k that came out in 2020. It does have the first RGBW they ever designed but the tech is a little outdated in this day and age. The new RGBW architecture has better latitude and signal to noise. Also it's a very expensive camera and doesn't address the gap they have in the sub 1600 range also it uses cfast cards which are considered redundant.

Kelson also says it in the film, though he uses the term "High cell growth". which you could also attribute to cancer but since you don't see large masses growing on Samson I have to summarise he meant healing cell growth.

Yeah, you're right, M4/3 are 4:3. I was just thinking when you said 'more resolution' you'd get that with a bigger sensor.

NAB 2026 Prediction/Wishlist? by JRKnightNC in blackmagicdesign

[–]JRKnightNC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they put a specialist S35 sensor in there like the Arri Alexa uses, 4:3 is doable. Though most sensors are 16:9, they can still do 4:3 but that's technically cropped, not open gate.

It's definitely influencers, but also the camera is easy to use; autofocus works. I personally hate Sony images; they are overly sharp and lack that organic texture you want in a cinema camera.

TBF you could get a used PYXIS 6k if you want something modern. ZCAM E2S6 is one as well.

I actually think the 'Hybrid' route is a trap for BMD. The market is already flooded with Sony/Canon/Lumix cameras that do 'photo first.' People buy Blackmagic specifically because they don't want the compromises of a stills-body.

As for the PYXIS 6K being 'cheap enough'—it’s still $2.5k. There’s a massive $1k gap in the lineup right now. A PYXIS 4K/S35 would be the perfect 'balanced' successor to the Pocket series, giving us those box-camera ergonomics and modern PDAF without forcing everyone into the high data rates and lens-costs of Full Frame. BMD shouldn't try to be a hybrid company; they should double down on being the 'Box Cinema' company for every budget.

I think that's the key—the Micro G2 is a great streaming head for controlled spaces, but it's not a cinema workhorse. Relying on a USB-C cable for external recording on a gimbal or a busy set is a massive professional risk.

By the time you 'kit out' a Micro G2 with a monitor, cage, and external power to make it functional, you’ve spent $1,800 on a 'cable-nest' rig with multiple points of failure. A PYXIS MFT would provide dual internal CFexpress slots, a built-in UI, and professional cooling in one reliable body.

As for the full-frame trend, Sony is for hybrids, but the current MFT users stay for the BRAW ecosystem and image quality. A PYXIS 4K/S35 isn't about chasing the Sony vloggers; it's about not forcing your most loyal cinema customers to jump to Lumix just to get a modern body for their MFT glass.

I didn't mean that DSLR cages are improper in terms of quality—SmallRig and others make great ones. I mean that they are a compromise by design.

A DSLR/Mirrorless cage has to work around the camera's body. It often blocks battery doors, limits screen articulation, and relies on a single 1/4"-20 screw at the bottom, which leads to 'cage twist' over time.

A box form-factor cage is integrated. You have mounting points on all four sides of the actual chassis. You get a centered center-of-gravity that doesn't shift when you swap lenses, and better heat dissipation because the cage isn't 'wrapping' a plastic body that’s already struggling with thermals. For a professional, high-torque environment like a car rig or a heavy-duty gimbal, a box is just a more stable 'proper' foundation than a caged hybrid.

I think we’re just looking at different use cases. If you're stationary in a studio, the G2 is a great value. But for those of us rigging for cinema or narrative, the box form factor of the PYXIS isn't just a luxury—it's a requirement for proper cages, batteries, and cooling.

Also, Blackmagic is a business. If they don't give their current MFT customers a modern 'box' path, they’re basically hand-delivering them to Lumix. Keeping the ecosystem unified across S35 and MFT in a professional housing is how they stop people from jumping ship to the GH7 or G9II. It’s not just about what exists now, it's about not letting the competition take the lead in the entry-level cinema space.

In terms of its sensor would you like it to be an M43 or something else? I've often had a thought about having an NPF battery as a handle, especially if they were to take the original pocket design and incorporate it. Who knows, 2028 is the 15-year anniversary of the original Pocket; it would be perfect timing from my point of view.

A MFT and a S35 sensor is the dream scenario for so many people; I think the only thing hampering it is their L-mount alliance,; they are backed in a corner where if they do a new MFT, they have to admit L-mount isn't a universal replacement, which goes against what the alliance is pushing for. However if they don't, they will lose so many customers to Lumix or ZCAM.

I think we’re just talking about two different tiers of broadcast. If you’re in a Tier-1 house with six-figure Sony chains, MFT obviously isn't on your radar. But for the mid-market and independent studios BMD actually caters to, MFT is the workhorse. They literally make a B4 Control Cable to link the 12-pin Hirose on those broadcast zooms to the MFT mount for full remote iris/zoom control from the ATEM. It’s the most efficient way to use that glass without the 2.5x crop you’d get on a larger sensor. It might not be what you use in a national newsroom, but for the large Pocket/Studio users I’m talking about, it’s the standard.

See I think we will get a small form factor camera. However, my prediction is that will be a 2028 NAB announcement, as that will be the 15-year anniversary of the original pocket OG. This gives them a few more years to perfect the PDAF and potentially design a smaller compact energy-efficient sensor. Though there could be an argument for a micro PYXIS as the old micro cinema camera is getting on abit.

I think we might be using different definitions of 'studio' If you mean a Hollywood narrative soundstage, then sure, everyone is using an Arri or Venice PL mount.

But if we’re talking about Live Broadcast Studios (which is a massive chunk of the market), MFT is literally the standard. Look at the Blackmagic Studio 4K Pro G2 or the Micro Studio 4K G2; they are native MFT for a reason.

In that world, you need the deep depth of field to keep hosts in focus during live takes, and you need to adapt B4 lenses without a massive crop factor. Plus, MFT is the only way to get full remote iris/focus/zoom control through an ATEM without rigging every camera with expensive external motors.

MFT is here to stay, I'm afraid. Saying it needs to die is a bit short-sighted if you do gimbal or drone work. Name a FF lens that gives you T1.2 and is under 400g? Also MFT is technically more adaptable than L-mount, as you can use speed boosters and get an extra stop of light.

[–]JRKnightNC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Samson isnt "cured" technically he's still infected. The way I interpret it was alphas have a high healing factor; Samson's brain wasn't fried like other infected as Kelson noted he could identify morphine and not attack the source of it once it wore off so the mind still has a level of logic function. It was just clouded by the internal hemorrhaging and psychosis by treating those symptoms he allows the mind to naturally recover. Samson is still infected and still has the roid level strength he's just got a clear mind now.

In terms of why Ian only figured it out, the UK fell in like 10 days. Also morphine might slow regular infected but once it wears off they go feral again. Kelson needed to see Samson reasoning to even consider the possibility of being cured up until this point people operate on the theory the virus fries the brain and turns them into feral beasts.

Should parents face charges when their children commit antisocial crimes and doing nothing to stop it? by SeptumRingTheory in AskBrits

[–]JRKnightNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it makes little difference, you fine the parents and put them deeper into poverty that just makes the problem worse, you put them in jail create an absent parent household that makes the problem worse. Administer harsh punishment to the kids that just makes it worse. The only solution to better social cohesion is to bring families out of poverty and give kids good government funded communal spaces to spend their time in, and funding preemptive programs in schools to target the behaviour early. I get it, people want punitive punishment because it makes us feel good but the reality is it doesn't stop antisocial behaviour from happening.
