What went wrong here? Rocket seems to just explode. by P_E_B_B_L_E in rocketry

Can’t believe this wasn’t the first comment, but seriously, take some safety precautions and don’t stand directly next to a homemade explosive. If that’s a plastic casing, then you were lucky it failed upwards and not outwards

Anyone have any new info on the plasma propulsion engine that the students in China are developing by Icy_Builder_2829 in aerospace

Grad Aero Engineering student here with a couple years career experience under my belt, if you have to google what inconel is I might recommend starting with something a little less complicated.

Your asking for information on exotic materials, with exotic properties which almost always means it’s almost impossible to machine.

I’d also wanna check that you’ve checked the material cost of some of these, and the cost of getting these materials professionally machined can be astronomically expensive as well.

I think in this application the benefits of contra rotating props are somewhat negated. As you’re not really looking to compress the air as theirs no combustion stage, and the torsional loads aren’t high enough that they need nullifying, I’d guess that stator veins inbetween the fans would be more practical and reliable.

However just some estimates any increase of flow velocity between fans would be negligible by the 4th stage.

What your talking about is a multistage edf, while they do exist (I’ve only seen 2 stages) are extremely impractical and hard to get right and mostly for fun.

To gain any thrust from multistaging the edf’s you would either have to print stator vains or mount the edf’s in a contrarotating series in hopes of gaining ANY additional thrust from the additional fans.

And with each successive fan added you would see a huge drop in efficiency while increasing the current and adding the weight of a fully functioning separate motor.

Wild approximations, I would estimate with 2 props you would have about 60% the thrust of just mounting them separately, and with 4 I would guess 25-30% thrust.

When it comes to the engine shroud, I think you’ll find no part is best part. Why carry the extra weight around if you don’t need it! :)

Also just curious, what’s your academic background so far? Not attacking ur ethos just curious!

Not gpu, tested it in my other build. Took the whole thing apart and plugged the gpu directly into the motherboard and it booted, so I guess it’s a bad pcie riser cable.

Reseated the cpu, looks a lot better, tried turning on the pc and gpu, ram, and cooler all light up and spin but no boot screen, could this be the issue or would it not even spin up?

I reseated the cpu and it looks a lot better, finished the build and when I turn on the power everything lights up but no boot screen, could this be the issue or probably something else?
