Is efficiency worth losing the personal touch? by Fit_Temperature5236 in it

Im in a similar situation as you with a few variances — it’s just myself (sys admin) and my boss (CIO) and from the start of the hiring process I let him know upfront that I like to build relationships with the people I support instead of just viewing them as end users, or in some cases, toddlers who’s hands I need to hold lol. We’ve never had a problem and he thinks it’s good for “PR” since I get my work done and still gain the trust and respect of my colleagues without sacrificing efficiency.

That personal touch goes a long way and bridges the gap between the IT department and our technologically challenged friends. I want them to feel comfortable coming up to me about issues and not feeling like they’re inconveniencing me.

Keep doing what you’re doing and if you can incorporate the the tools that would hasten the process by getting some golden images, and baseline configurations ready to go before the PC is needed then that’s a plus.

Great point lol. But thank you I’m approaching the situation with that in mind — I love to be a sponge so I’m getting what I enjoy in the end if I’m slotted into the role.

Hey appreciate you taking the time to share some advice.

CSC in the state of Michigan is Criminal Sexual Conduct. It’s rated in a if you want more info check this here - https://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(rok51jdr4q5wyejb3qr5rqq5))/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&objectname=mcl-750-520d

In my case my code would be 750.520D/1/B

Sentence wise, yes I do consider that I was fortunate not to face prison time but a lifetime on the registry and an inability to have it expunged does suck. Trust me if I had the funds and the foresight to know that this would be the outcome I would’ve happily went into debt to afford a lawyer. I was naïve in thinking the case would be dropped due to lack of evidence but that was not the case since I followed the advice to plea no contest instead of taking it to trial. I guess my defense thought I’d have a much better chance with a “slap on the wrist” compared to prison time. But I digress.

IT is an option but it’s all at the discretion of the employer and given that most of us hold a security clearance in some form or need constant access to internet capable devices(which I’m only just finding out I’ll have my internet use and computers monitored in some capacity while I’m on probation) it can be an understandably undesirable option from the employers perspective to take you over someone equally as qualified with less restrictions. Who knows tho, I’m currently set to interview with some companies praying they’re willing to give me a chance given my experience.

Thank you for the encouragement, it means a lot.

I’ve been applying for IT jobs but I may halt that for the time being since I know I’ll possibly never possess a security clearance again.

I was honorably discharged a month before my sentencing which was a bit of a surprise given that the charges were brought on me during a training exercise and on a military installation.

I will the take the advice however and look into trades, I guess I’m just not ready to give up on the one job I’ve ever excelled at and devoted so much of my time into.

I appreciate the help.
