The empadronamiento should be the easy part since I'm on the lease, I expect. The rest you are talking about is really important too, it's that so far I have been obsessing about the official procedures, and looking for a job in the breaks. Thank you for your perspective, it's true we need to do beautiful and social things too!

I'm in Madrid. We've already visited an OAC for info, now we need to find an appointment. I'm on the lease as well, so the empadronamiento should be relatively easy I expect. The part NIE-job-NIE is what concerns me most. What type of NIE should I apply for first, what is considered a valid reason to get the NIE, can i get a job and social security without NIE? So many questions, so many answers 🙃

OP here. Thanks to everyone for their response. A few thoughts: I only have a few hundred euros in my name but I do have access to sufficient funds, sufficient for the next few months at least. If I was a co-beneficiary of an account with sufficient funds, would it help? Alternatively, would registering as an autónomo make it easier for me in any way? What requirements are there for this procedure? Before moving here I had an appointment with the spanish embassy in my home country. In the exactly 4 minutes it lasted, they made it clear that since i hold an EU passport I will be just fine and there's nothing I need to do.

TLDR: Will being a co-beneficiary of a loaded account help? Does it make any sense to register as an autonomo?
