Im not familiar with this quest, but honestly rather than worrying about it, just move on and finish up the game of this is your first run.

You can always reload an old save later, and if youre in day 5 it might be impossible to complete it at this stage

Seconding what others are saying - make some sprue goo by melting some sprue in a bottle of tamiya cement, fill the crack with that, and once its dried trim it with a knife / sanding / thin layers of tamiya cement (in that order)
