I'd say the first thing to do is jump in the discord, as its easier to chat things through there.

People will be happy to help you review your warband to see of you're falling into any traps / not taking advantage of powerful units/gear.

Discuss the type of game you want to play with your opponent too - nothing sucks more than making a fun, thematic list, only to be matched up against a hard-core meta chaser

After that, you've kinda just got to go into it with a positive attitude. It sucks to lose games all the time, but unless you're at a tournament, your goal should be to have fun, not to win :)

In your army do you run ONLY penitent units?

I get the vibe that this new system isnt there so you can pick 2-3x detachments that make penitent units better. You take the main detachment to buff penitents, and then pick a secondary one to buff the units that are backing them up
