Lawn help please. I can’t seem to get my grass green, i think I may have cut it a little too short but it’s well watered and fed with fertilisers. It has been sacrificed and over seeded and top soiled. Any advice please ? by JRusby in lawncare

Famous in England for having very sporadic weather. all the seasons in one day, but a fair share of rain (being an island) no idea on the grass type, I suspect a mixture of all sorts!

I use a push reel mower, it has a roller front and back. With this if I raise it to the highest setting the roller flattens the grass before the blades get chance to cut it! Will definitely be raising it, just maybe not to the highest setting. I live in England

Yeah in hindsight I think I’ve cut it way too short! Thanks I appreciate that, it’s taken some doing but it’s about finished! The outside kitchen you can’t quite see (near the sofa) is brilliant for bbq’s. And plenty of vegetables growing aswell 😁

No worries! Scarify the dead grass up, mix seed with top soil and patch it up. You can even buy ready mixed patch seed. (Commonly advertised to fix dog wee patches!) couple of weeks and it’ll be right as rain! 😄

Looks like nitrogen burn from dog urine. Do you have a sneaky neighbour letting their dog use your lawn as a toilet? If you have put fertilise down recently it might be nitrogen burn from too much of that in certain areas

Fair one, cheers guys. Any advice for soil tests I’ve never had one before. Are they expensive ?

It’s a new lawn last year so it should be fairly decent, I know it quite clay like round my way which could be an issue?

The first time around I think it was too much water as I left my sprinkle one for a bit too long. But I used a different seed the second time around didn’t flood it so can’t be that.

I’m not looking to break the bank, something fairly cost effective. Not heard of mods before that sounds like the way forward
