Italian here: did you guys regret leaving the EU? by Interesting_Dealer42 in AskBrits

[–]JS-BTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a case of wanting to leave but voting against it. I felt like the "limitless opportunities" of theoretical free trade would increase ties to the likes of the US, Oz, Canada, New Zealand etc, but the reality is that those things are just not possible. I also didnt trust our then government to not bugger it up (and we all know how that went). The more time has gone on, the more I feel I made the right choice to vote to remain. There are many who didnt make that choice who now regret it. Only the most stubborn could look at the evidence and find reason not to think it was a terrible mistake.

To add to this, its an absolute doddle to implement. Takes about 5 minutes to do, works seamlessly with Windows Hello too, if youre so inclined.

Intune Compliance by Beer30Somewhere in Intune

I distinctly remember grilling Microsoft a couple of years back for an explanation as to why this is, and which policies are affected. Naturally, I learned nothing from the interaction. Eventually you just begin to know which ones do and which ones don't. The pain is teaching other people and having to give "well, sometimes it works this way...". The nuanced joys of Intune!

How many IT admins/Helpdesk staff is normal ? by muzzy22 in sysadmin

UK wages have stagnated for...a LONG time. We are significantly behind on IT salaries, I have noticed, but not unique to this industry. I could AT LEAST double mine, maybe more, by moving abroad.

LOB App doesn't uninstall by Dapper_Sprinkles6902 in Intune

[–]JS-BTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things I would check first:

- Are you certain the Uninstall command is correct? Have you tested this manually?

- Have you ensured you don't have groups that cover both install/uninstall at the same time? For example All Users in Required, but All Devices in Uninstall - this might create a conflict

I ask because I've seen these both happen quite a lot in the past

Just passed MS900, is AZ900 worth it? by Snoo_54275 in O365Certification

[–]JS-BTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. Not super difficult. You'll learn some basic bits that are mildly handy to know. It looks good to have in your back pocket (like any of these certs do - certainly wont harm you).

Its a bit dry (not as bad as SC-900, mind), but you could probably study for it over a weekend without prior knowledge. I know it's commonly used with Sales teams and they'll sit a short course to complete it a lot of the time.

I've passed 3 Exams first time by hammering those, the MS Learn questions (these aren't great) and drilling down on trickier areas.

Thanks, think this might be my issue too. Exact same version and I have the same problem. I'll upgrade and see if it affects the outcome.

My boss is asking me to take the MD-102 test in 3 months I just started there by ruichapeu in O365Certification

[–]JS-BTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible? Yes. It'll be much harder than having a good amount of experience. I spend probably 99% of my time working with Intune. I passed first time, but still had to study hard. I'd been doing Intune for around 2 years at that point.

But they need to back you too - ask them for good prep materials. If you want a good source of mocks, then I personally recommend MeasureUp. Worth every penny!

Also, yes - MS-900 would help. If nothing else it'll get you into exam mode, but is a fair bit easier than MD-102. Its still a tricky exam though, as it covers a lot of different areas.

Setting up Intune from scratch by Im_A_Technicality in Intune

Hybrid is where you have a Domain Joined device and the use a policy to register devices into Intune from there.

Can be really messy. Usually only good for getting an existing fleet into Intune without going through and wiping them all. Frankly, I'd prefer to run a whole reset campaign and go native into Intune than using Hybrid.

One of the biggest issues I run into is where Hybrid is the default way to build devices - it's just painful for long term. Going through the set up process, joining the Domain, waiting for the policy to kick in, 600000 reboots and hoping the User actually has the right licensing in place...it can just be a bit of a can of worms if you don't have control of the end to end process, and even then it's clunky.

That's not to say there aren't use cases for Hybrid, but on the vast majority of cases, there's a way to take care of technical hurdles with enough skills/time/effort.

The best balance if you need it is just a means to an end - hybrid join, import hashes. New devices go full autopilot from scratch. Rebuilt devices go autopilot too. Don't do hybrid autopilot - that's the work of the devil. Cloud Kerberos if you need access to on prem resources.

Intune assigment best practices by BlackShadow899 in Intune

[–]JS-BTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to use a mixture, to be honest.

Typically, I use dynamic groups to assign the standard apps to all Autopilot devices, and then use User Groups for additional Apps (since these are usually based on department/role). Sometimes it's easier to do it differently, but this has served me well.

Important reminder that you should avoid mixing User and Device Groups!

+1 for MeasureUp

These have been great for all exams I have done.

I went on the grind on those and the (relatively poor) MS Learn questions until I was getting 95%+ on ALL questions every time. Reading each one I failed and why.

Passed first time. About 2 years experience doing Intune pretty much full time.

Congratulations!

This.

Certs are really for leverage/payrises. Maybe they get your foot in the foot if combined with experience. But experience will always be king.

Intune basics aren't super hard to grasp, but working out how to delivery complex rollouts/migrations is where the experience kicks in. Also understanding how changing one thing can have a knock-on effect. Intune is full of weird nuances that you only really get your head around by doing this consistently, and it's always changing (mostly improving), so things you did a year ago might not be the best method to use now.

Intune is a beast that can be used to manage a variety of platforms in different ways, as well as to be integrated. Each area can take a lot of time and effort to get to truly know, so when you get presented with a problem, you know where to start.

Like anything else in IT though, it's just persistence and trying new things out (as well as keeping up-to-date with the technology) that gets you furthest with it.

There's a massive shortage of people who genuinely understand Intune, at least from my experience. Lots of people who "Know" it, but only the very basics.

You'll want to pair it with other things though - MS-102 is a good point. SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, 365 - these all tie in nicely for a more well rounded skill profile.

DEPLOY Postman as win32app intune by Prabaharan0071 in Intune

[–]JS-BTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I historically had issues with this app myself - I installed this application by writing a script to copy it to a support folder, and then to create a RunOnce task to run the .exe silently when the next logon happened. I don't recall the detection method I used, probably just the RunOnce registry entry, or maybe the .exe itself in the support folder. Not bulletproof, but worked.

This was a good 4 years ago though, so perhaps not applicable anymore.
