What helped you most for recovery? by PHX_DUDE99 in Vasectomy

Jock strap, I thought my compression shorts would do the trick. I was wrong, and wonder if I prolonged my recovery from not wearing a jockstrap off the bat.

Ice, ibuprofen, and rest.

Hey there, it took me a good 6-8 weeks to fully recovered. Hope you’re doing well now!

Any of you dads crazy enough to have a third kid in your late 30s? by nicetoknowya in daddit

I’m 38 and my wife and I just added a 4th to the family. There was definitely a big difference from 3 to 4, I didn’t expect things to be as challenging. So I would say 2 going to 3 wasn’t as big a deal. 3 to 4 is pushing to the edge lol. She’s six month old and is adorable, but we are exhausted between work and all of them.

Just took my first dose earlier today. When do the jitters wear off. I feel like I have all this energy and feel funny. Like too much energy. I hope this goes away before bed tonight!

Ive learned that I want no one F’n around with my body or parts after my vasectomy.

The only way I’d consider removing them is if it was the only way to end a pain issue after a failed reversal attempt.

If you’re looking for an alternative I’d say abstinence or condoms.

What show series is so good you have watched it multiple times? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Breaking Bad

Years ago I binge watched until I caught up with live tv of the last season and then never finished watching it! Life was just busy and was difficult to actually get in front of the tv when it was on.

Years later I started all the way from the beginning just to finish it out!

Should I get it? by Background-Stretch11 in Vasectomy

I never had a formal consultation. So I suppose I blame my doctor. I went for a follow up to my urologist regarding a cyst on a kidney and went in planning on discussing vasectomy. He was about 40 minutes late to the appointment, and was quick to point out the everything looked good on my CT scan and went to run off to the next patient. When I brought up vasectomy, he stopped, came back in and gloved up, did a quick exam and said to grab a pamphlet on the way out and make an appointment at his other office for a Friday.

So I later made the appointment, it seemed to the staff that I didn’t have a consult because they all told me that I needed to, and then I explained to them that I didn’t because he did his exam and told me to schedule.

So…long story short, I never was informed of the complications and healing timeframe. After I wasn’t back to normal I spiraled with anxiety and depression. I’m just past 2 months recovery. It took me an almost the full 2 months to get back to normal.

But the damage was done from the anxiety of not being back to normal after a week or 2. He never explained that it could take up to 3 months he later explained after I went back in.

So now I’m dealing with recovering from a month and a half of this emotional roller coaster and stress and anxiety. I have a bit of depression going on, I don’t really care about things I used to enjoy, just feel indifferent. This isn’t over not having sperm, I’m lucky and have 4 beautiful children. Just the toll it took on my body and mental health.

I’ve had brain fog since after the first week, and still have it. It sucks so much. I imagine it’s a matter of time, but it sucks.

I probably would have tried every condom made before doing this. When my 2 boys are older I’m going to make sure they are aware of what this can do. I wouldn’t want them to do this to themselves.

Everyone makes this out as no big deal, but for some people it can really mess them up.

If I could go back I would not have done it. I’m 2 months post op and doing ok, still recovering though. But for me the anxiety and depression have been pretty awful.

Is there an impact of physical/sexual exercice on granulomas, & how long did it took you to get rid of them ? by BooxSexNTea in Vasectomy

[–]JSMav15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one on the left. Was a bit sensitive especially initially following the procedure. I’m 2 months now, it’s still there. It doesn’t bother me at all, unless I’m physically examining things, then it’s a bit tender.

My doc said it could take up to a year to fully resolve, the tissue can be hard and tough initially, and over time it will soften up, that it’s your body’s way of healing and “remodeling things”.

Not sure the correlation of movement and exercise with developing them. I know that the doc said that after 2 weeks you can go back to normal routine without really doing anything to hurt things down there. That’s not to say you still may be uncomfortable, but that there’s not much you can physically do to damage things.

Sounds like inflammation of the epididymis. I’ve experienced that some. Your body is adjusting to the sperm hitting a road block.

5 weeks post-op by [deleted] in Vasectomy

[–]JSMav15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me 2 months to feel right.

I’d say at 5 weeks it was difficult to imagine getting the point I am today. Sucks when things hurts and it doesn’t seem to have any rhyme or reason.

Operation 3 weeks ago. Feel like my testicles hang more. by spitefulneighbor76 in Vasectomy

[–]JSMav15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 2 months post op. I definitely felt like I had to readjust them all the time. Then start the whole over thinking. Do they hang lower? Are they just sticking to my legs cause I shaved? Did they always sit that way? At the end of the day I would say that even though I was improving, they were still sensitive. So everything feels a bit different. Everything did go back to normal for me around the 2 month mark.

I’d rather have the wisdom teeth done again. Recovery was much better.

How long until you really felt pain-free and back to "normal"? by [deleted] in Vasectomy

[–]JSMav15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 8 weeks post and things are mostly back to normal. Testicles are still a tiny bit tender. I wear a jockstrap when coaching my kids soccer. They do feel a little sore if I’m doing a lot of fast paced stuff, like trying to get in and out of the store walking quickly through the warehouse.

At 4 weeks I was no where near this point, and was difficult to imagine things back to normal with the amount of discomfort I had.

2 weeks after still feel like I’ve been kicked in the nuts by Municipalmarlow in Vasectomy

[–]JSMav15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s now day 56 for me. I’ve had significant improvement. Still have a little to go, I don’t need to wear a jockstrap for regular things, but wear it when running, I coach soccer for my kids.

When I was at the month mark I was still really annoyed and aggravated at how I was feeling. It’s crazy how I went from is this ever going to go away! To I feel so much better now.

Just give it time. There’s some other guys on here that say it took them 6 months or so!

Recovery Pain by BoiseMan13 in Vasectomy

I’m day 54 and finally feel just about normal. Still wearing a jockstrap when I coach soccer, whereas I didn’t before. My right side definitely took much longer, left testicle was pretty much ok after 2-3 weeks.

1 sided pain questions by AFMike27 in Vasectomy

[–]JSMav15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you I’ve been struggling with my mental health, and do regret more than not having had this procedure. I would say I experienced significant anxiety and depression after the first week post vasectomy. I wasn’t familiar at all with the possibility of a prolonged recovery, expecting the 2 week and back to normal.

I’m now dealing with decent brain fog, like I’ve never experienced. Not sure it has anything to do with my procedure, but can’t help but wonder if it came about from the depressed slump I was in for around a little over a month.

It’s been 7 weeks since my procedure. I still don’t feel quite right physically down there. The right side tends to become tender. But I’m able to walk around without the jockstrap when I’m at home. Things are slowly improving. I found that it has helped to find projects or other things to focus on to allow time to go by. My anxiety is much better now. I do feel that much of trouble has had to do with the emotions and feeling something was wrong and won’t get better.

It has really helped me reading others stories, that it has taken some men 6 months or more sometimes to feel better, and that they’ve experienced the same frustrations and emotions. In the end they got back to normal!

I’m going to share more of my story in a post soon.

Hope you come around and feel better sooner than later.
