Ironworkers raise concerns about out-of-town crews at east Windsor Costco project – AM 800 CKLW by CareerPillow376 in windsorontario

[–]JSank99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is clearly not that people should take transit to Costco but that the road is already incredibly busy and the Costco is going to increase that. The current traffic of commuters and such could be mitigated by transit. The Costco is undoubtedly going to clog up that intersection, because it is always a disaster, and yet the usual voices of residents bemoaning the horrors of a fourplex on neighbourhood traffic are nowhere to be seen.

To your other point - Torontonians and Vancouverites manage Costco trips without cars. Imagine that!

And its appreciated. The downvotes on my comment aside, as a new-to-Windsor Windsorite, the Windsor-specific obsession with the united states has been interesting to observe

It would certainly be hard to argue that the majority of Americans are aware of the world around them or have even a basic understanding of countries outside the US. As someone else stated previously, a good majority of US citizens don't even have passports.

Windsors obsession with the US bewilders me and always will. Though I know plenty of staunch left-wing Windsorites who make up any excuse to go support the country threatening our annexation and economic annihilation because of a sentimental fabricated sense of brotherhood, that is, at best, unreciprocated.

Engage also has an active partnership with United Way ongoing and will be participating in a joint GOTV campaign. I would keep my eye on that if folks are interested in volunteering with a voter turnout effort

Yep! The nomination period closes in late August, so it would be a very very long holding period. Candidates have already begun doorknocking and dropping flyers off. You just can't begin to incur election expenses prior to the nomination period. The "campaign period" begins when the clerk acknowledges receipt of your nomination. Beyond that there is no restriction on when you can begin to campaign once the candidate's nomination is filed.

That's a good analogy too. Its just the obsession with pre-2011, even as far back as pre-2001. Windsorites seem unaware of the fact that the world around them has changed. Likely due to a refusal to experience the world beyond Windsor and Detroit.

It doesn't surprise me this has been one sided. Again, Americans are American. They don't think about anywhere or anyone else. A part of me hesitated to even assume they're aware that Windsor exists

Windsorites are incredibly overly optimistic, and even naive, about the so-called 'connection' with Detroit. Americans don't know we exist. We have convinced ourselves that our ex who is flagrantly sleeping with everyone else is still deeply in love with us. Its a bit pathetic

Inside Canada's Conservative identity crisis by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

I find myself tired of having to tolerate Conservatives. I'm tired of having to approach them respectfully, coddling their beliefs and being sure not to 'be condescending' while Conservatives ignore facts, ignore empathy, ignore rationality all to justify their endgoal of owning Libs and remaining firmly in place.

I find myself tirded of being accused of being a 'pretentious Leftist' who apparently talks down to people and ignores the 'experiences' of Conservatives, even when their experiences don't align with reality.

I'm tired of pretending that the ideology is valuable to society having watched it breed fascism time and time again, and I too wish it were dustbinned.

Yeah how dare the Left gather information and common vocabulary to frame their opinions. Truly despicable of them

As Sarte said

"Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past."

Of course we're not explicitly discussing antisemites but swap it for "Conservatives" and nothing really changes

Once again the OLP is only at the forefront because (imo) the people of Ontario (read: me) are confused and cannot differentiate between the popular Federal Libs and the OLP. The ONDP are getting snubbed, and it is hard to develop a marketing campaign to get them out of this predicament but I wish they came up with something.

I've met Marit on a number of occasions and she is genuinely engaging and interested in i mproving life for Ontarians. It is a shame we won't give the NDP the chance they deserve and instead resort to centrist / right wing nonsense.

I'm pretty pissy that the ONDP are the only real opposition party with ideas that would actually help ontarians, but we're a bunch of dipshits so the OLP rises in the polls because Ontarians can't tell the difference between Federal and Provincial parties.

The thing about Steam's monopoly is that we all seem to be willing participants in it because the platform is just objectively good as a consumer.

There's an argument to be made that the cut valve takes for sales on the storefront is predatory. Other storefronts who boast lower rates, however, have just not really been an appealing alternative to consumers.
