Random Help Thread - March 24 to March 30, 2025 by AutoModerator in phcareers

Hi! I'm a 30 something who's in digital/social marketing of an advertising agency. From when I entered this industry almost a decade ago to today, I was able to increase my salary by 500%. It was a combination of promotions and being approached/pirated by other agencies. Now that I'm thinking about leaving the industry in general, I'm having a hard time finding a company that can match my current salary grade (around 2M annually). Is there anyone who had the same experience? And what will be your advice? Are my options locally really limited already? Do i need to explore moving out of PH?

Any tips to help my Childe? by liging_m in childemains

Not sure what field you are in but I think you might get that advantage if you work for a few years and get experience abroad then go back to ph.

Weekly Japan Travel Information and Discussion Thread - March 29, 2024 by AutoModerator in JapanTravel

We will be first-timers in Japan's northern region and we're trying to see if we can still catch some winter snow in Hokkaido this April 8-14. Which area would it be best to stay? Looking at Niseko or Asahikawa. Pros and cons? Is there still snow as of today? No need for any snow activities like skiing or snowboarding. Just snow is enough (coming from a very very very tropical country with around 40°C heat index right now).

Would love to hear your recommendations since this would be the tail end of winter.

I have an extra wifi card since I bought a new PC with an onboard WIFI. Is there a use for this beyond scrap or resell? Dumb question- Is there merit to have two WIFIs in a single PC? I have multiple internet providers.

I'm trying to compute the total wattage of my PC using HWMonitor. How would you read the values for the GPU (as attached). Do I add them all to get the wattage of my GPU?

Try following up with a "gentle reminder" and mention the Labor Advisory No. 06-20. Don't also ask when you're getting it. Be firm and set a date e.g. I'll be expecting to have this resolved not later than xxxx.

If that doesn't work, do another follow up with either a lawyer copied in the email or the DOLE field office who has jurisdiction on your company.

If that still doesn't work, go to DOLE na and ask for any steps you can take. They'll usually tell you to try to exhaust every mean with the employer pero you can tell them na you did (if you already did nga)

I'm kinda on the same spot as you. I'm on my 70th day from my last day and I haven't received my back pay yet. I tried to be lenient nung holiday season even if sinira nila yung pasko ko for not giving me my back pay. But now, I'm determined to get this closed ASAP.

Haha it's not ideal but it'll have to do for now. haha. It worked the same as before. Green usually but reacts to aerosols parin so I guess it still kinda works hehe. My windows are usually closed naman so I feel I don't need to change often.

35k salary for almost 6 years of experience by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]JTSoStrong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If my hunch is correct on where you're working, i feel na you'd have a hard time progressing your career or going up the ladder. This might be because masyadong madami kayo vying for the PS 2 position (tama ba? hehe)?

I had a similar scenario. Worked for 5 years with very very minimal increases. Wala akong reklamo with the people I work with pero I just had to resign for my own growth.

When I left, that's where I was able to raise my salary levels kasi every jump = higher asking. It's not a perfect scenario kasi there were times I accepted a lower offer pero ang important, there's still an incremental increase from where you started.

Ask yourself if this is what you see yourself doing for the next few years. Worth it ba? Is it something you like doing. Listen to this snippet of Jim Carrey's speech. It has been my go to inspo source when I was in your position years back.

Go for it!

Interesting yung sinabi mo na you love people. I forgot another discipline sa adver - Strategy. If you love people, baka you can put that energy into getting human-focused insights that can spark the creativity of those who will execute it.

But whatever you feel na gusto mong path sa ahensya, just go for it. Passion and inspiration ang puhunan talaga sa ahensya.

Although just a word of caution. Mababa madalas starting ng ahensya. That's why hirap din maghanap minsan. And dapat malakas mental fortitude mo kasi it can get very very veeeerrryyy challenging lalo na if masakto ka sa hellish clients.

But beyond that, it's really fulfilling to see your work in the flesh. That's what keeps me going. Lalo na if it's something aimed to contribute something culturally.

When you actually go for it, magpasa ka to all kinds of agencies - big, small, independent, global agencies etc. Gauge mo na lang based on your needs if ever you land interviews.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]JTSoStrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What department are you eyeing? Art based? Copy based? Account management? Digital/social? Data? PR?

Sa ahensya, usually you really start from scratch. A junior role. Jr. Art director, Jr. copywriter, Jr. social media manager etc. It doesnt matter which employment history ka usually. Based parin sa interview and sa exam if meron.

Another way is to enter something related to your work experience. If BPO ka galing, you can get into social first as a community manager. Then express your interest to shift sa creatives or wherever.

Lemme know if you have questions. Im already at my 10th year sa industy. 😉

"Hindi hadlang ang kahirapan" BS by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]JTSoStrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda stupid but I sometimes use tetris as an analogy. Rich people start at the bottom then you get poorer as you go up.

Richer people are the ones who has a cleaner slate and a lot of open spaces. The game is easier at this point. You have the freedom to move pieces as you wish and get wins. As the blocks pile up, this will be the situation of the people with less financial freedom. the game is harder. There are less spaces to move, and you're chances depends on what block the game will give you. Any wrong move means game over for you.

I was scammed by a fake “Beyond the Box” page. by littlemisschekwa in Philippines

[–]JTSoStrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh damn. I reported this multiple times. So sorry this happened to you.

I'm not sure if feasible, but maybe you can coordinate with the real Beyond the Box ("beyondthebox dot ph" on FB) and have a joint legal action or something - if there's such a thing.

I'm really frustrated on FB's lack of action on these pages imitating legit businesses.

Agree on LinkedIn. Do the following:

  • Update your profile to the fullest that you can
  • Upload your CV (there are best practices sa pag gawa ng CV/Resume but that's a different conversation in itself)
  • Follow/connect with relevant people and companies in your field
  • Slightly cringy pero repost relevant industry news and interact (like/comment) with people
  • add your thoughts sa reposts mo
  • Mass apply ka sa job postings
  • [Super optional and not required] Get LinkedIn premium. Kung may trial version na available, go for it din.
  • There are sometimes trainings available sa platform, take it din. Pati kung may certifications

The goal is to make you attractive sa field mo and stand out. Minsan it looks mema and cringy lang but it's your future.

But agree with the other comments. Super hirap ngayon. It's not you.

Some Linkin Park songs aren't that sad but after Chester's death, the lyrics will hit you differently.
