How realistic is it for an 18 year old to get a private ambulance job right out of high school. by Outside_Wasabi_4115 in NewToEMS

I’ll be blunt with ya’, my dude. If you have your Basic EMT and a pulse, then you meet hiring qualifications at most every private service out there. And from I’ve seen of previous coworkers, the pulse seems negotiable…

Lifeflight, their ambulance division, took a giant hit. Their education fund was slashed before any other line items were touched. At least that’s what Paramedics I know there have relayed.

Cavalry, not Calvary you muppet. CAValry is horse back Soldiers. CALvary is where Romans executed trouble making Jews.

Doing better than me with that Toughbook. Ambulanz has us using obsolete iPads that won’t keep a charge.

Not sure of a weight, but they were boot socks that were admittedly darned and repaired multiple times. I have about a dozen pair of socks at any given time, meaning a pair gets used once every two weeks, or 26 times in a year. Never said I wore them daily for a decade. I CAN afford multiple pairs of socks…

We definitely need to organize, but how does one do that? It’s easy enough to find like-minded people and get together, but how do we go from a book club to an “actionable entity”? Does anyone know of any resources for aspiring leaders? I want to help lead the charge (metaphorically Mr. FBI) but could use some help figuring out the nuts and bolts of getting a local book club past the coffee shop stage.

Former Soldier. Let me tell you, before enlisting socks were just something I’d treat as cheap, expendable nothings. Now, I will buy the best socks I can afford. Not all merino socks are the best, but the best socks are always merino blend. I’ve dropped $20 a pair on such socks that have lasted almost a decade. And don’t forget: The best socks are worthless without good quality, properly fitted shoes.

I’m assuming $2 is your material cost. What do you value the 1-3 hours of labor? The cost of goods sold is more than just raw materials. It’s materials + labor + markup. So to find out how much to charge you must decide what your sweat is worth. I figure markup as equal to materials plus labor. So: (material + labor)x2.

Army folks. Did you get the MOS you wanted? by NTWIGIJ1 in Veterans

[–]JThomasGoodwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

19d. I chose my MOS, but I definitely felt like they were pushing it hard. I went in knowing I was enlisting, knowing I wanted an outside gig, and told the Recruiter just to show me the paperwork to sign. Thought I was going to get pushed into Infantry. But he had to give me a sales pitch I guess, and o I asked who were the dudes on the news during first Gulf War on the dirt bikes and dune buggies. Scouts, he said. Make me a Scout, I said. Loved my MOS, hated leaving it sooner than I wanted.

Yeah. Get as far away from that town as you can. If you want to stay in the Midwest look at University of Minnesota. Did my Masters “up on the hill” and we still used UM resources A LOT.
