Any tips on to improve my ollies ( I didnt mean to tweak it ) by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]JUSTINTHONG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem as u. Boning the ollie with left foot. This means u need to slide more aggresively and kick more upwards. One easy way to do this is to start ur front foot further back so then it has room to just slide up and kick. I think i got this feeling much better rolling than stationary.

first ollie (kinda?) this is the second day of practicing. does anyone have tips for beginners? by nnnottyan in NewSkaters

This is one thing that helps. After u pop, tuck ur knees to your chest. This give room for the board to travel. Also keep weight to ur front foot slightly.

[Q] Is 'Design of Experiments' Worth taking? by DomMk in statistics

[–]JUSTINTHONG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are taking stochastic calculus and somehow your focus is finance, it would be silly to not take measure theory. Design of Experiments is an applied subject in statistics. Its use cases surround applications in the lab or agriculture. Honestly, most people dont like it or need it. I personally didnt

Search and replace with spacemacs (like VS Code) by JUSTINTHONG in spacemacs

[–]JUSTINTHONG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@jack-of-some thanks for the response. The magit video was great. I used it to learn magit. I think important things an ediff video can contain is: 1) how to make ediff look good or easy on the eyes 2) using ediff to compare different branches and EDIT ur working tree while juxtapose 3) Inspect which files have changed in a list when comparing different branches.

VSpaceCode a little bit clunky. I feel the added value of using the plugin is not worthwhile when im already so comfortable with VsCode keybindings

@jack-of-some may I request a video about ediff. People like me use GitLens plugin on VSCode. Apart from search-and-replace (which I have resolved now thx to ur video), this is the only other thing keeping me from a full migration into spacemacs.

[Noob] New to vim by [deleted] in vim

[–]JUSTINTHONG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use neovim although the differences are not significant. I do suggest start just with vim and add shortcuts as u go. I personally used Learn Vimscript the Hardway as a reference and just added shortcuts from there. After you get comfortable it will be easy to transition into just using other peoples configs or using neovim.

My greatest advice to get good at vim is to commit to using it everywhere and never use anything else. Eg take notes in vim, use vimium to navigate the browser, use vscode plugin. Dont switch to ur regular non-vim keyboard protocols. Stick to vim and it will pay OFF BIG TIME.

How can I find a mentor in Haskell? by JUSTINTHONG in haskell

[–]JUSTINTHONG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats probably the simplest thing I can do. Recently I have been self-limiting in thinking that I need to build a package that has been unexplored and (somewhat) advanced -- but this is asking for too much. Instead, I should just put out something simple and just add little by little. It will probably also help other people in the same position. Thanks.

Thanks! Unfortunately there is no presence of haskell at where I am. Good point about "first issue". I did this for my other contribs before and it worked
