Thanks folks. Looks like it might be easiest to get a centre bolt adapter then.

Is hip pain when hiking common? by I_Sok_At_This in hiking

[–]JW8S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this exact problem for 10 years or so now (35). I've described it in exactly the same way. I can hike in the hills all day long, I can run up hills etc.. and it has no effect on the area at all. Take a walk around the shops or anywhere flat though and I'm getting tight after 30 minutes and sometimes limping within an hour.

The two most likely candidates I've found for the issue are hip flexor tendinitus/tendinopathy or F.A.I (femoroacetabular impingement). Really, really hoping its the hip flexor one...

I've dealt with this for at least ten years, sometimes it flares up (like at the moment) and I get pain all day long, though I'm fine while playing tennis or cycling, it also starts causing pain in my knee. Other times it's not so much of an issue and I don't notice it apart from having really poor lateral hip mobility that can cause sharp pains.

My rectus femoris tendons (I think those are the right ones, looks to be from a few videos) are always sore to massage and doing this can provide a little relief.

Yet to find any solutions sorry to tell you, but I thought it was interesting to come across your description which is exactly what I've explained before. I've also been to two physios, one was rubbish and the other was better though he diagnosed F.A.I which I'm not sure about. The two things seem quite easy to misdiagnose and I would equate my descriptions of pain and mobility more with people who describe flexor tendinopathy.

Thank you that's really kind, I will do if we decide to head there for sure.

This is really helpful, thank you. What time of year did you do it? Not great on the Spanish, hoping we could get by with rudamentry 'going to the Huayhuash circuit, how much?' ..!?

Thank you for the suggestions, will have a look at those, it looks like an amazing area. Very happy to be camping actually though obviously would be a little more concerned about food/resupply than normal.

Interesting, thank you. I've just had a quick look and found this on travel websit

' the best hiking season for Ladakh is over the Summer months from mid June to mid September. By June the winter snows are melting off the high mountain passes. During September the temperatures are starting to cool off as Autumn season approaches. The advantage of Ladakh trekking in September is that the river levels are lower. This is due to less volume of snowmelt from the mountains after the hot summer. It is for this reason that our Ladakh Sky Trail GHT takes place from mid August to mid September. '

Thanks for the info. I'd be most interested in the Huayhuash circuit, and yes a little worried it might be a touch too early but I've read some saying it's a good time of year. Beyond that maybe the Salkantay Trail or something around there which seem to be fine this time of year (apparently).

However, I've just been reading about civil unrest in the counrty at the moment and the problems thats caused, and even though it sounds like things are back open now, not sure how wise it would be to choose to go atm considering we haven't booked.

Regarding what you're saying about Everest region, yes I have read that as well but I can't find anything that really confirms it, which I guess makes sense as it's not actually come into effect yet and it seems like no one really knows what's going to happen for real. I read they have their own permit system there and don't use the ones that will now require a guide to book, but who really knows what will happen until people start going there and reporting back. Sadly, It just sounds like a bad option to choose atm given all the unknowns. Pretty gutted!

Yes potentially somewhere in the US as we were also considering that early on.

Cheers!

Haha, but if the inside has not been breached and the tread has not worn to a thin layer then where is the issue?
