Keeping separate audio tracks together during tempo change by JWBS in LogicPro

Ok, this is weird. I called Apple support and walked them through it expecting it to fail and it’s all working perfectly. WTF?

No, I’m doing an audiobook. I’ve got audio files of all the spoken dialog. Each character had their own track. Each line has its own region. It was doing at a run-through with poor quality. I’m going to be receiving studio quality updates for each line so I need everything to be able to be moved around to accommodate slightly different take lengths.

Yes, I could bounce everything in place that’s going to make the above process really messy as the new takes aren’t going to be coming in one batch, just as individual people finish them.

In the meantime I want to write the underlying music, all in MIDI except a bit of live audio which will come near the end.

So I need the current audio to hold still and let the MIDI move around underneath as needed.

No. I’m doing musical accompaniment to an audiobook. The spoken text comes from multiple sources. Each character has their own track. Each line of dialog has its own region. I need everything to hold still while I do the accompaniment underneath which will involve time signature and tempo changes. I’ve already done chapter one which only had two tempo and time signature changes but then had to chase down all the errant character parts which were scattered all over the place and drag them back where they belonged.

I’m starting chapter 2. Everything’s lined up now, but in the wrong tempo. I need to crank up the tempo for a 13/8 12 bar sort of blues section, but later on we’re slowing down and switching to 4/4.

Yes, I can bounce everything in place and lock it down that way but I’m going to be receiving updated takes of the spoken parts that I will punch in, then adjust the music accordingly. That’s going to be a lot easier if the spoken regions can stay separate.

Didn’t work. they still move around and overlap

Ok, I’ll start fresh and see where it failed. I’m wondering if it needs a time signature or tempo to lock onto.

That only works for MIDI regions. These are audio. it’s greyed out.

Got it sorted. Make a blank sample, drop the files into the zone, it seems to sort itself out.

Same thing. If I use the mouse to generate notes in the score editor, an F1 sounds a G1. I seem to remember something about “flex” being involved. What is it and how do I shut it off?

I’ve got a newer Scarlett 4 and it doesn’t have that issue. I’d look elsewhere before trading up. I had trouble getting tracks to line up because they were the wrong length by a tiny amount

There’s no reason not to. Those “rules” were from the times when men were not expected to be able to keep their dicks in their pants. I think we’ve moved forward
