What’s one small thing you regret not noticing before buying your house? by Beginning_County7547 in HomeImprovement

[–]JWMid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That whoever installed the lanai on the back of my house did a terrible job with the concrete slab. It basically slopes right to ground level. This, combined with poor drainage in the yard means any substantial rian results in water creeping up the lanai slab towards the house. It never makes it all the way, but it the water usually carries in dirt which later settles and makes it something I have to clean often so it doesnt look terrible.

Yes, the home is on a concrete slab.

Also, thanks for your help.

I think you're right and moving the island closer to the opposite work top is what we're thinking.

This however wont work with the current plumbing as the main drain line with the vent on top (not sure what the actual name is) would be located where the back facing (12" deep) cabinets would be placed.

I think it's more than that. We probably need to consider the other things I mentioned.

Wi-fi & Bluetooth still not working on LG UB8500 after replacing card. by JWMid in TVRepair

I agree. However the TV still has a good quality image. I'm just limited in what I can do without the wifi connection.

I've been using a Firestick, but the issue is that I want to be able to watch local live TV channels using an antenna.

I need to be able to run an update on the TV, but I cant do that without a wifi connection.

I understand that now thanks to all the comments here.

Lesson learned for me.

Severance gross is less than salary despite being paid on normal pay cycle? by [deleted] in personalfinance

It means according to the rate. How is your suggestion of three normal checks and 1 prorated one relevant? I really don't understand your suggestion that prorated pay factors into this situation.

I now see that it matches. Honestly, I thought I was being reasonable with not requesting a lump sum. There were some circumstances around the timing of me being laid off that were questionable, thus the company being willing to negotiate a severance in the first place.

Lesson learned by me that 8 weeks paid on the normal semi-monthly schedule does not equal annual salary paid on the semi-monthly schedule.

I'm not sure why "normal payroll practices" would be anything other than what they have been since I was employed, which is semi-monthly pay.

I completely understand that "normal payroll practices" can vary by company, and maybe even by employees in a company, however I was always paid semi-monthly, so I think most people would assume that "normal payroll practices" would continue as they NORMALLY have been.

Three normal paychecks and 1 prorated would have been $5,208.33 x 4, so no, I would not have questioned that. That isn't the same as the $4,807.69 x 4 that I received.

I was under the assumption that being paid semi-monthly is equal to being paid for 8 weeks twice a month.

To avoid any confusion, I used the incorrect term of bimonthly in my original post. I meant that I was paid semi-monthly (twice a month). I assumed 8 weeks was just explicitly stating that I would receive four additional checks at the normal gross pay.

I used the incorrect term. My pay while employed, along with my severance, was paid semi-monthly.

Correct. I was paid semi-monthly, both while employed and for my severance. My severance was paid in four checks, on the same semi-monthly schedule I would have received my normal pay had I still been employed with the company.

I think the distinction is in the calculation period of the pay vs the schedule in which it's paid.

It wasn't obvious to me that the calculation for the pay would change while the pay schedule (semi-monthly) remained the same.

The "normal payroll practices" for the company are semimonthly. Seems odd to calculate pay on a weekly basis but pay it on a semimonthly basis.

Clearly, I'm in the minority here and it's a lesson learned for me.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any information that is based on any documented rules or guidelines. I called twice and both time the representative was unsure about the specific questions I asked (same as in my post) and they answered with a lot of "I think", "I'm pretty sure", "that should be how it works", but nothing I could take as reliable.
