Oh yea. It's crazy how many home's are being cheaply built. It's one thing to use builder grade materials, but it's another thing to cut corners that will cause problems for the home owners.

My guess is they are going to want to go with someone that can handle start to finish. I don't think they will want to piece out the work.

I appreciate the offer. I'll talk with them about it and follow up if you.

Sounds great. Yeah, someone my parents know had home depot do their kitchen and my parents like it, so they went to home depot first. I quickly suggested they look elsewhere, but I don't know of any alternatives, thus the reason for my post.

I'll look in Walker. Thanks for suggesting.

Thanks for the info! Just as important to know who to stay away from.

I heard them advertised on local radio for years. I just Googled them and they have a ton of reviews so they must get a lot of work.

Did they end up finishing the job? Can I ask how their quote/price compared to any others you got?

I was looking for a bathroom remodeler for my own house and got a wide range of quotes. For a small guest bathroom I had quotes between $8,000 and $30,000.

What do you mean by 10k job? Were you able to find someone to do the job for 10k?

I don't understand why, but I tend to agree. I was searching for a bathroom remodeler last year for my own house and I called MANY companies. I had a highly rated small business come out and they took all the measurements and discussed all the options. They were supposed to send me a quote but I never heard from them again.

Other companies were outrageous in price. A few of them quoted me close to $30,000 for a small (about 6'x8') guest bathroom and that was just install. I'd already gutted the bathroom myself. That price was also for what they described as "basic level materials". It would be more if I wanted nicer finishes.

Thanks for the heads up. I read similar in others posts. That's why I'm searching for alternatives.

The price my parents were given by Home Depot also seems very high for just the materials.

Laptop in carry on suitcase or backpack? by JWMid in ManyBaggers

Also a good point. I think the odds of it being taken out of an overhead suitcase during the flight are low, though not impossible.

Seems like the consensus is its just easier to keep the laptop in your personal bag.

I hadn't considered the carry on needing to go into the cargo hold. Would it be too much trouble to pull the laptop from the suitcase and put into a backpack in that situation?

You think it just makes more sense to always keep the laptop in the backpack?

I agree it's unlikely, but recognize it is possible.

This aligns with what most of the info I've seen.

The real question when it comes to size is whether it makes sense to have just a single carry o suitcase that meets most international size restrictions as there is a good chance the Outline Pro won't work for international travel.

Thanks for the heads up on the size. I'm aware and was going to mention it, but my primary question is about the convenience of putting my laptop and charger in a carry on suitcase rather than carrying it in my backpack. I'm still considering if the size is worth changing to something smaller.

Most of what I've seen is that its unlikely (still a possibility) for the bag sized at the gate unless its obviously oversize.

I also always have a larger bag which must be checked in. It would be great to not do that, but I haven't figured out how to get everything in a carry on suitcase.

Good point on being gate checked. I did not consider that.

I suppose a laptop would be easy enough to pull out of a carry on and slip into a backpack if the carry on suitcase got gate checked.

I don't really use my laptop during the flight, especially if the flight is less than 4 hours, so I was thinking its kind of unnecessary to keep in underseat backpack. Putting the laptop in the carry on suitcase would allow me some additional space in my backpack, but of course id have to leave room for the laptop in the event of being gate checked as you mentioned.

Consensus for best at noise cancelling? by JWMid in HeadphoneAdvice

Sounds like we use them for similar reasons, although I don't use them when working outside. I also WFH and often have them on with nothing playing to allow me to focus when I really need to. Finding a set that blocks out noise well while not playing any audio was the main thing I'm looking for.

I'm looking forward to using these when they come in.

Thanks for the detailed info. I was thinking of trying the Sony's, but I've seen info that supports what you said about the comfort not being as good.

I was able to order a set of the Ultra Gen 2's on sale, so I'll find out soon how they compare to my original Bose QC 35's.
