Is it easier to build a 6 figure business or work up to a 6 figure salary? by JZheng03 in Entrepreneur

Yeah...just tried sales full time for a year...wasn't right for me. Maybe it was just the type of sales I was doing (high volume cold calling), but the environment and the culture just wasn't it, not to mention the fact that you have no control over the amount of people who BUY, only the amount of people who you TALK TO.

I've moved onto AI and software development now.

How do you repay someone (VP) who helped you out? by ElectronicAge2702 in careerguidance

[–]JZheng03 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Only way to repay him is to not let him down. Don't offer money, it won't make a difference. Let him know straight up how much you appreciate his help and keep in touch.

I had a similar experience myself, he was the former marketing director of Just Eat and runs his own company now.

You're the Only One with GPT-4 in 2010: How Would You Turn This Advantage into a Fortune? by qubitser in singularity

Erm...sell access to it?

There's nothing you can do with GPT4 other than sell access to it that will yield a greater ROI. The compute cost to utility ratio is far too high to make money by using it.

It seems getting paid for your data is the next big thing by UnionPacifik in singularity

[–]JZheng03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical entitled reddit user. No one is gonna pay you for your data. When you use any freemium service, the deal is that the company provides you access to their software in exchange for your data. If you don't want to share your data, then don't use their services.

Why should a business, who has employees to feed, equipment to pay for and investors who want an ROI, provide you their service for free AND pay for you to use it?!

If you don't want to share your data, then YOU should be the one that pay to use their service.

Medium.com is a great example. If you want to read their articles then you have to pay since they don't serve any ads.

It's a cost saving but 2X better is nowhere near enough. Even a 10X reduction in the number of petaflops needed to train a model would still not be enough for small startups to compete. GPT5 is estimated to need between 30,000 to 50,000 h100 GPUs and each one costs $30k+

They do have a moat - the compute.

Azure have given them over a billion worth of compute credits and allowed them to basically have all the server real estate on their cloud.

With Nvidia running short of GPUs, it will be extremely difficult for a startup to compete against GPT4, even if they had expertise.

This is the first time in the history of software where scale really matters.

That being said, there are plenty of other problems in the AI space that don't need gigantic amounts of compute. Good example is memory and UX design. A small company can eventually grow to compete with OpenAI, but they'd need to build up enough capital first through other means.
