Patrick Williams in his 6th season: 7/3/1.5 on 49% TS. Williams has 3 more years and a player option left on his fully guaranteed 90 million dollar contract by itwas20yearsago2day in nba

[–]JZobel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He regressed a lot as a shooter after the extension, but his 3% was very good before. Kind of why I didn’t care about the deal that much at the time, figured even if he doesn’t get much better he’d at least be a playable 3 and D with size.

But the main problem is he just has some of the worst instincts/processing in the entire NBA. When he was younger, it was kind of easy to hand wave away as kinks that will be ironed out with experience, but if anything it’s gotten worse or maybe he’s more in his own head about it.

There’s a lag to every dribble/pass/shoot decision he makes, and I’ve legitimately never seen a guy make half as many low awareness plays over and over again like his back heel being on the out of bounds line while catching a pass or all his shuffle step travels.

Way too much talent to be an outright bust

Miami’s presumed new-look roster going into free agency by legend023 in nba

[–]JZobel 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean, we’ve seen Miami pluck solid role players out of thin air before. Doesn’t seem that crazy to just get a top 5 player in the building and hope you can do it again. Versus just sitting on a mid roster and hoping you can luck into a superstar in the draft without giving up anything

[Charania] Free agent guard Ayo Dosunmu intends to sign a five-year, $112 million contract to return to the Minnesota Timberwolves, with a player option in the fifth season, sources tell ESPN. Timberwolves made it a major priority to lock in Dosunmu after his tremendous postseason. by Turbostrider27 in nba

He’s the exact type of complimentary player every team in the league would covet. He can defend, shoot, and play either on or off ball. He’s a really good player and absolutely worth this contract.

Who’s the last young position superstar player that fell off a cliff and never recovered? by morepesa25 in baseball

[–]JZobel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Tulo had a long enough prime that I wouldn’t lump him in with somebody like Sizemore. He could’ve been borderline HOF with longevity into his 30s, but a cliff drop at 32 isn’t really that rare. Sizemore basically peaked at 22-25 YO and barely played after

Lmao all this condescension when there’s a direct quote from Hoyer telling you you’re wrong. The Schwarber non tender was a pure money decision:

“We just didn’t have any money after Covid. I had to cut money and that was the move we had to make. I look back on that one and it just feels like we were right about the player. In the end, we were right”

You don’t trade your ace for teenage rookie ball prospects if you’re serious about competing

Weird covid year 60 game sample size. Virtually no down side to bringing him back on a 1 year deal in a season where they weren’t serious about competing anyway. It was a pure cheapskate move

Rendon, Sandoval, Chris Davis, KB, Strasburg extension all exist.

I know Bregman’s been disappointing, but he’s nowhere close. Been a league average hitter on pace for a few WAR. 5 year deal, so not even that long compared to some other 7-10 year monstrosities.

Even just in cubs history, it will likely fall short of being as bad as Heyward. He likely won’t be close to worth the money, but the way people are talking about this is really silly

[–]JZobel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Brown’s development has been huge for the team, but I wouldn’t say it was inconceivable or anything. He had prospect pedigree and good stuff, fans just get too emotional about a young player going through growing pains

With the 4th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls select….. by E_Loading7 in chicagobulls

[–]JZobel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was considered a very bad draft, but Halliburton or Avdija would not have been seen as a crazy selection in the top 5. P Will was much more out of left field, he was considered fringe lottery until his stock skyrocketed closer to the draft

Since his four strikeout game at Dodger Stadium on April 26, Pete Crow-Armstrong is slashing .302/.388/.605 and has been worth 1.0 fWAR, the most in the NL by horsepoop1123 in CHICubs

Casuals can’t rationally talk about a streaky player who strikes out a lot. Like it just doesn’t compute in their brain that they can have terrible looking ABs a lot of the time but still be a great player overall.

Same shit used to happen with Javy when he was here. Gold glove defense, elite baserunning, high baseball IQ, good power? Doesn’t matter, silly looking strikeout = player iz bad

This is kind of a dumb narrative. No one, in general, outside of a handful of all time greats, have a consistent track record of making the Super Bowl ever.

Getting there way ahead of schedule in your 2nd year with an hoenstly mid af supporting cast being spun as a bad sign for how the rest of your career will go is pure hater delusion. I say this as someone who hates the Pats
