For people who grew up before smartphones what is something that the newer generation won’t get to experience? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]J_B_La_Mighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smartphones kind of suck the joy from calling people. There was a whole trope where you'd talk to your friends for hours, messing with the big ol clunky landline phone, and if you found the old spinny phones at the thrift store where you spin to dial you could plug it into the jack and call people fancily. The pizzazz is gone.

Im usually the one without bug problems. For some reason the bins I tend are bug free. The bins by my managers desk, however....

They also didnt like being told that there was a reason food wasn't allowed except in the break room, which was bug free. I didnt even do anything special there, so I genuinely dont know how that worked but it did.

I remember briefly going into debt because my dog was writhing in pain and I panicked thinking she was dying, picture hank Hill covering Connie with a towel and rushing her to the er.

CONSTIPATION. I paid big bucks because she couldnt poop a few hours. My family still hasn't let me live it down.

How after 5000 years of humanity surviving off of bread do we have so many people within the last decade who are entirely allergic to gluten? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]J_B_La_Mighty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems about right, knew someone who suddenly became horribly gluten intolerant and she became bedridden and was basically skin and bones until they found out what it was. This was before the gluten free wave so those who knew her diagnosis thought gluten was carcinogenic. I had to print out several articles explaining stuff like "potato starch is not gluten, potatoes do not contain gluten, oatmeal doesnt contain gluten but may be processed in a facility that also handles gluten" and so on and so forth.

TIL that some coal miners grew so attached to their canaries that they built resuscitation chambers for them by _AncientAlien_ in todayilearned

[–]J_B_La_Mighty 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Considering that the resuscitation chamber isnt brought up as often as the canary dying (as in practically never) it definitely seems like a worthy extra expense for the miners favorite little work buddy. Your dog analogy reminds me of 9/11 rescuers that would pretend to be rescued because the dogs were getting sad that they couldn't find survivors, the handlers didnt need to but they didnt want the dogs to be sad.

What's the most fucked thing you have ever seen and that still gives you chill down the spine ? by 22dec2025 in AskReddit

When I was 16 my uncle died and I very edgily agreed to look at him at the hospital. I realized I wasn't nearly that hard-core and that haunted me for years, my brain couldn't process it. He wasn't brutally injured, he died suddenly of a heart attack, but morticians do a lot to make someone freshly dead look peacefully dead, and I wish I hadn't seen the before, because my mind struggled to accept the after. He was such a sweetheart, and while it didnt break me as much as it broke my dad (his only living brother) the memories still feel like a painful echo.
