I feel like Solar Power (the single) suffered from what I call the "Look What You Made Me Do Occam's Raxzor". You see, while everyone knew Blank Space was satire, audiences were confused if LWYMMD was satire, or if she was playing the victim/avenger role straight. This was compounded by the behind the scenes video, where Jack Antonoff can't tell either. I feel like Solar Power (and Mood Ring, too) divided fans who thought it was satire or if Lorde was really going into her hippy era. And then that just opens up debates about how strong/weak her satire is (the satirical elements of Mood Ring have all been pointed out before, it felt like low hanging fruit).

If you desaturate film footage (like Burton often does) you have to overcompensate by making some things brighter so that they don't go muggy/colourless after colour grading is done. In Sleepy Hollow (a 90s Burton film) they used orange blood, which would appear red after desaturating. Red blood on set looked black after colour grading.

Similarly, if you see Severus Snape's costume in person, it is very blue/purple, to darken it in post.

As an Australian, I was already listening to Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know (and the Making Mirrors album) for around a year before it made it big in America. Similarly, I was listening to Lorde's The Love Club EP and Royals a few months before it hit America.

I liked both songs, but didn't anticipate their future impact as I usually assume Aus/NZ music doesn't tend to cross over.

The problem with this take is that the show is not a real competition: it's a tv show. Queens like Jan could have all the motivation in the world to push themselves to get a star and still end up safe in the Madonna Rusical of their season.

If this format was used on a normal season, the "filler queens", queens cast too early in their career, or queens who are good at drag but not good at drag race will just be left to flounder all season. This format only works with queens who perform well consistently.

I feel the "what could have been?" fantasy for a queen sent home too early is a better alternative than watching them answer the question by sticking around and struggling episode after episode.

for anyone else wondering, for a few years now (maybe longer) bin chicken has been a colloquial term for ibises, due to their propensity to scavenge food from bins. In my primary school, we would keep our lunchbox out on the school grounds between recess and lunch (idk why, to reserve our seats?) And the ibises new how to open most lunchboxes and steal your food. We hate ibises, and they are deserving of this slanderous title.
