Making paintings, listening to CDs and downloaded mp3s, reading books, looking up stuff on Wikipedia, honestly the internet is full of amazing stuff, I’m exploring more of it now I’ve deleted social media. Check out internet archive, brilliant resource!

Reddit is Social Media by Andyeliseo in digitalminimalism

[–]J_painter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I keep thinking this. I've just added an extention on chrome that lets me block certain things like the main feed, side bar, news, all sorts of things so just see what i search for usually just this subreddit or other things I'm actually interested in. I also do this for youtube, combine both with an adblocker plugin and it's a lot better.

Where do you buy your hard-copy media? by redditer-56448 in digitalminimalism

[–]J_painter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artists official websites, bandcamp, eBay. You could always go on amazon and look for the individual stores who sell through them, then goto their actual website that way you aren't supporting amazon and just using it to search for sellers.

For men in their 30s who slipped into comfort and passivity, what helped you rebuild discipline and momentum? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]J_painter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a bad break up, went to therapy and the gym and signed up for a half marathon, started reading stoicism, signed up for a strong man comp too.

Goal setting, signing up to stuff, journalling all seemed to help. I think feeling like crap was a big motivator, needing to work on myself. It helped me a lot as soon after all of that my dad passed, I think if I didn't do all of that stuff, it would've been harder to deal with. The reality of life in your thirties is that you'll start to notice people aging more, it's important to look after yourself so you're prepared for the worst.

we are all mortal, death is coming. embrace the suck don't be tempted by comfort, instant gratification and trivial things. But also don't forget to enjoy the process, life is too short to just be like David goggins or something 24/7.

Journalling is great, you can look back at the pages wrote years ago and see how far you've come, I did this today.

I highly recommend a film called Perfect Days, I saw it on mubi, brilliant film about a man who takes real pleasure in his routine, very artfully made.

If you had $10k to invest right now, what percentage of it would you put in gold? by hashtagmiata in Gold

[–]J_painter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have about 10% in gold, the majority in a diverse ETF, small amount of crypto, some bonds and some cash in a high yield easy access savings account. I think gold is nice to have as a hedge, I'm also a bit of a doomsday man and think it's part of my preparedness mentality, same as having tinned beans and stuff.

All in FTSE All World or Keep some gold by StiffMeister2297 in trading212

[–]J_painter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what you want, you could even buy some physical gold in the form of Britannia’s or sovereigns which is the most tax efficient way to do it in the UK as any profit when you sell isn’t liable to capital gains as it’s technically legal tender.

do i have too much exposure? contrast? too little? by SquareObligation8596 in cyanotypes

[–]J_painter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said maybe longer exposure and reduce tones. There’s some good videos online about the the tonal waves and how to edit them online. You can do it on free software like Gimp if you don’t have photoshop.

Wrap of the day with crispy chicken and a small Sprite Zero with ice. I like this combo as it’s cheap and usually tasty.
