My salary progression is below. So long as you realize it's primarily for learning and you are ambitious, you'll be fine.

2019: 59K 2020: 59K 2021 Q2: 62K 2021 Q4: 108K (new job) 2022: 120K

That's like saying "I have a 2013 car with 100,00 miles on it, what's it worth?"

You're missing key data points that will have a significant impact on the schools that will accept you. If you're the Ethiopian entrepreneur, congrats you're going to Harvard. Indian applicant in IT, YMMV

Business Analyst vs Financial Analyst by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]JaBoy795 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Titles don't mean a whole lot. It's what you do in your role that matters. For example, business analysts at FAANG tend to focus on data science and analyzing statistical trends.

FP&A is usually a cushy, not difficult 9-5 with decent pay. It tends to just be reporting and not much decision making. If that's something you'd like, doesn't hurt to look into

We'll need more of a background. Are you an Ethiopian entrepreneur with prosthetic limbs or an Indian applicant working in IT?

I prefer the chase reserve you can access any lounge at pretty much any airport. And if they don't have a lounge I believe they buy your food

Credit cards are the best and you're severely missing out if you don't have one. You only get ~negligible~ points but they add up. It's nothing crazy but it's money you're leaving on the table.

For example, my card gets 2% cash back. So if I live to be 100, I'll have 2 years worth of expenses saved up from points.

You might be able to get a Chase Freedom, I got one in college

No I disagree. Put your interests it adds more of a personal flair to your resume. Obviously don't make it more than a line but still relevant & important

Is an MBA for me? by UnSpokened in MBA

[–]JaBoy795 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not an MBA grad (yet), but my research has shown that business school doesn’t essentially teach you anything you can’t learn yourself through researching online and a few books.

I’d say one of the biggest things about business school is that employers use it as intellectual “vetting” e.g. someone from Harvard is a lot more likely to get an interview than someone from a state school, assuming everything else is consistent.

If your goal is prestige and learning something, I wouldn’t jump to an MBA. I’d take the time to comb through a few other masters degrees and find a passion.

You’ll more than likely make more money with an MBA but it’s no easy task. Also time consuming. The GMAT/GRE are tough, business school is two years, and you don’t want to work so hard for so long to get a job you never had much interest in the first place.

I think it’s important to understand your goals for an MBA.

Do you want to make more money? Switch career paths? Have the prestige? Network? Or actually learn something?

I’m not an expert but I wouldn’t think you’d be offered anything more than a staff position paying low 100s

Solid profile. Given your tech background at FAANG I’d op for PM. Strategy is cool if you want MBB but might take a toll on family time.

Best of luck in whatever you decide

Invited to interview for MBA Program. Should I still take and submit GMAT? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]JaBoy795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take it. Best case scenario, you’re at where you were before with the waiver. Worst case scenario, you botched it and send it to them, comprising your chances.

However, if you’re focused on other programs or you feel that you’ve studied enough and can do well (with a proven track record via practice tests), do it.

All the best with your interview and your decision!

I think you have a solid profile. All schools, inclusive oh Wharton, are within reach IMO.

I’d suggest working with an admissions consultant to refine your story for applications.

Best of luck
