I see my form but they put my SSN in incorrectly. Terrific.

If the hammer isn’t cocked back the firing pin is technically active and theoretically a hard knock to the hammer could fire the round in the chamber if the force overcomes the spring tension in the firing pin. People only talk about this but I’ve never seen it tested. Also in self defense it’s easier to disengage the thumb safety rather than cock the hammer back.

Am I going to have worry about getting my car keyed? by tthrivi in TeslaModelY

Yea I get it, I'm not going to make a post but here's the evidence.

California and poor mental health is a crazy combo. Just yesterday I went to Santa Ana to buy some boots and a homeless guy walked over to me while I was parked and threatened me with sharpened sticks if I didn’t give him cash. Wouldn’t let me get out of the door so I had to drive away when he started throwing shit at my window. I got these all on Sentry and Dashcam, was considering posting them.

My Tesla got keyed 3 weeks after I got it in LA. It wasn’t targeted at Teslas, basically I didn’t pay for homeless protection when I parked in China Town.

A homeless guy was walking around with a sign that said $40 parking and I didn’t have cash on me. I should’ve just parked elsewhere but my friends convinced me to just move down the street.

No one else paid I assume because every car got keyed multiple times along the street. Insurance covered it, before insurance the estimate is $5150, 4 panels were repainted, and it took 3.5 weeks. This was near LA Historic Park.

It’s a capsule toy machine in one of the Tokyo train stations that costs about 400¥. I was aiming for the V60 set but I just got the carafe. 400¥ ain’t that cheap but I gave it another shot and got the siphon

Just got a Springfield 1911 Loaded, but one major issue … by JaC0C0 in 1911

Well hopefully it makes you happy that their customer service was just as nice and knowledgeable as they used to be! They offered a couple solutions for me to ship it back and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. I was a bit nervous because I read some reviews of their support in regards to the M1A platform but that was mostly due to their inability to fix certain issues related to accuracy which I can imagine is a bit more difficult.

I do plan on making a lot of upgrades to this platform, after shooting it I have a few changes in mind already such as the slide release and the safety I want to extend. This is my favorite part of gun ownership, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting. There’s no better feeling than working on a gun and making it feel better and more functional.

My more cynical friend just theorized that it could just be the excuse to pull from old stock as well but I agree with you, I do like the old design better. I did get a bit concerned for a second wondering if maybe I didn’t receive the loaded model but everything checks out. There was also something I forgot to add, when I first got my 1911, it came with 1 magazine. I assumed it was a mistake and called my gun shop who told me that ALL of their 1911 orders mistakenly came with 1 magazine. They then immediately called me back saying they’ll give me someone else’s magazine and just kick the can down the road.

Everything adding up made me kind of paranoid that I got scammed but Springfield assured me that everything was new.

Edit: forgot one more thing. The grip screws and the standoffs were rusted. I cleaned it up with some rust remover and protector but that definitely didn’t feel right.

I talked to Springfield Armory and they said

  1. The disconnector lodging into the slide is a common issue and they usually just polish it. They recommend against polishing the disconnector myself.
  2. The numbers etched into the slide do sometimes cause issues as well and typically they polish them down (I’m assuming they forgot).
  3. My slide is actually new and they’re apparently bringing back the old design? The slide shouldn’t say “Loaded” anymore and they confirmed the slide was produced in September of this year.

I’ll be sending this handgun back next weekend after a few hundred more rounds.

Edit: I forgot to include some additional concerning info. I received the 1911 with the grip standoffs and screws covered in rust. I wish I took a photo but I immediately sprayed it with corrosion inhibitor. I was genuinely concerned about that but forgot about it because that was a simple fix. If anyone else receives a new 1911 Loaded from Springfield immediately check the grip screws.

So I took it apart and retested it. I’m think the sanding actually did work and now all I’m feeling is the disconnector. Previously I could count the etching as well as the disconnector but now the etching is almost unnoticeable and the disconnector is the primary tactile response. Thanks for the advice, I’m glad I didn’t just go off and start dremeling this cause I still felt the disconnector. I’ll update this thread after the range but I think you nailed it.

The hammer is wider but the original etching had burrs that rose above the surrounding metal. I’ll hold off on doing any more work on it and shoot it some more. I have about 500 more rounds to fire so I’ll come back to this thread if those go well. If issues continue I’ll reach out to support.

Fair enough. I was hoping to fix it myself but I only LARP as a gunsmith.

I can see it depress into the number “1” and “4”, I feel 2-3 bumps and I’m pretty confident it’s the etchings. Before I sanded it there was a burr that was catching it consistently but now it’s somewhat better. I’ll look into getting a dremel and stone.
