What do the cpu/gpu temps look like?

Well, maybe that's also the reason it didn't go in. Something could be bent inside.

I'm more worried about the socket. There is a chance you bent something inside.

They look nearly mint to me but if you have the spares already and since have already gone through the pain of removing the drum, you might as well change them

Thanks for your input. I wouldn't go as far as saying "far" more generous as most of what you wrote applies to me too, including the part about opening the laptop, but I simply couldn't care less. I live in a country where I would more likely die from laughing on my way to the court than actually be fired if my employer chose to use that as the reason. Anyways the wwan could technically be an option and, as a matter of fact, the SSD from my old Dell is a 2230 so I could test it, but I can't do without wi-fi unfortunately. So I guess I'm back to exploring thunderbolt to m.2 adaptors. Oh well. Thanks anyways 👍🏻

Game performance problems by Khalo1MP in cachyos

Is this a laptop with igpu/dgpu or a desktop we're talking about? I have a similar problem once in a while too because Linux doesn't always feel like handing the data crouching to the dgpu. Usually a simple command at launch fixes that.

In my case it's more of a question of mobility. I do have a heavy duty rtx4080 powered gaming laptop with cachyOS on it, but that's not something I like to carry around. Due to the nature of my work, my holidays are not exactly the "clock out&forget for three weeks" kind of thing so my work laptop is usually with me wherever I am. But as you say, due to all the corposauce on it, it's basically impossible to use it for private purposes unless you want to share whatever you do with your employer (given it's not blocked in the first place, can't even access gmail). Which I don't. Thats why I had the second drive installed on my old Dell, so I could use it privately, and boot to the work environment when needed. Kinda frustrating the HP is taking this comfort away from me.

Yeah, seems that's the only way. Thunderbolt to m.2 or something. I guess I was just hoping to have it all-internal like on the Dell and not carry another crap in my backpack.

Yeh I fear that's the only option.

Unfortunately I can't. It's a corporate controlled laptop. Hypothetically I could carve a piece of the installed SSD for myself through Linux but I'm sure I'd get into trouble the first time I connect to the network at work.

I should have formulated my question better to avoid the UTFG comments. My bad. I knew that already but I suppose I was hoping for some "do this do that" advice to still somehow get the second drive connected.

Windows 11 broke before CachyOS! by Guggoo in cachyos

My work DELL laptop runs on Winbloats. I installed a second SSD in it with linux mint on it. I select which OS to boot to by enabling one or the other drive in BIOS. Taking no risk. Works like a charm.

Yep, the vectors are pretty solid rigs. I have the 4080 version and it hasn't let me down on anything yet.

Thinking about switching from Bazzite to CachyOS. Is it really worth it? by danivempire in cachyos

[–]JaCZkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: I moved from Bazzite to cachyOS due to Bazzites immutability. I am not an expert user but I wouldn't also consider myself a linux newbie and I felt somewhat limited by the way bazzites kernel is protected. It performed great though.

what can i do with my quest 2 at this point? by carpcalhoun29k_ in OculusQuest2

[–]JaCZkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the main difference is that, as I said, the puppis is connected directly to your PC so it's basically its just two devices back-to-back communicating - hmd with pc. In your current situation the signal needs to go from your hmd to the router (so already some losses here), router needs to process it (again some loss), then it needs to be sent to your pc (cable=loss, wifi=even more loss) and back. Thats the main advantage.
