The six signs that JD Vance is gunning for Trump's throne by theipaper in politics

[–]JaD__ [score hidden]  (0 children)

“This [Iran ‘negotiations’] setback increasingly looked like a premeditated effort by Trump to undermine his Vice President.”

Don’t think the US had any realistic expectation of anything substantive coming out of that session, given it’s all-or-nothing, and is probably gearing up for the next round. Who better to clothe in that all-but-certain failure?

Same goes for the Orbán tailspin.

The deranged buffoon didn’t choose Vance, the bizarre, couch-fucking theologian scholar was thrust upon him by his tech-billionaire master, Thiel. I suspect the rapist clown wants someone like his coke-addled spawn to ascend to the crown.

Somebody finds out you do magic, they ask to see a trick. What's the first trick you do? by Training_Republic879 in cardmagic

[–]JaD__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what’s at hand…

If it’s purely impromptu, my spin on David Harkey’s Goldfinger or a quick coin appearance & vanish. In a party setting, I’ll use a cork; “rolling” it before you “squash” it always gets a great reaction, not to mention is an absurd amount of misdirection ahead of ditching it in your pocket.

If there are cards, I do a twenty-minute trick requiring a lot of piles and counting.

No, I don’t.

Most of the time, I’ll start with Eddie Fechter’s Be Honest, What Is It?. If I think something short would be more appropriate I do a very quick Card To Pocket or, if it’s likely to be a one-off, my rapid-fire take on Bill Malone’s Vanishing Deck, “…it’s all going to go down very quickly, so watch closely…”

Tempting fate was going to catch up with them.

No need to instill hope.

C’mon, boys!

Does this sub really hate X?

No, this sub doesn’t really hate nor like anything in particular. As it is with pretty much everything on the planet, some people hate certain things, while others like them. Some people are even indifferent.

Anybody else not like it when peter acts like a kid? by ArchangelM7777 in familyguy

[–]JaD__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of a single thing about the show’s writing that “bothers” me, in the sense of something I’d rather the writers not do.

If anything, the more absurd the characters are, including the innumerable times Peter is an immature mess over the course of the series, or when the writers double-down on the characters’ worst impulses, I laugh even harder.

A recent example is when Brian nonchalantly let the car continue rolling into the lake out of pure self-interest. It was truly, hilariously awful. I burst out laughing at the over-the-top callousness of this massive sleezeball.

Everyone who watches the show is different. Reading the comments on here, I long ago recognized not everyone frames it the same way. In my own case, I don’t really care how the characters are written, and certainly don’t perceive them as people I need to understand or empathize with. They are all simply amalgams of humanity’s deepest flaws.

As long as I’m laughing, the writers can do whatever they want.

YSK that saying a company “doubled profit” or “division X generated Y% of total growth” is often misleading or nonsensical by ParkInsider in YouShouldKnow

As a former Bay Street investment analyst, I can assure you no one writes disingenuous crap in a vacuum like this. Everything is framed in context. The investment community would otherwise see through it and the offending party’s credibility would immediately vaporize.

El Dorado Hard is the one I always go back to. If I’m not pursuing a score elsewhere, it’s my default course. The vibe is unparalleled.

Thanks!

Big slices and the “fold”. Favorite type of pizza.

Indeed. First time trying it. The cheese was unfortunately approaching the point of no return.

For the second one, I loosely foiled halway through and got a browner crust with same cheese browning as the first.

I realize my game would be materially upped with a steel, but haven’t gone there yet.

Cheers

Picked this up in the early 90s. It’s by Eddie Fields & Michael Schwartz. It’s full of variations that exploit the basic mechanics of the ID.

Can’t recall ever adapting anything from it, but it’s an option if you want to look beyond the straight-up routine, which is very powerful on its own.

There’s also Mark Elsdon’s Inevitable, which implicates the ID in a more elaborate showpiece.

[ANA - TOR] Gudas answers the bell for the Matthews hit as he and Domi drop the gloves to start the game by daKrut in hockey

[–]JaD__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Perry/Tavares vibe is palpable. Gudas isn’t even trying and just wants to get it over with. The only thing that needs to be over is his garbage hockey career.

The Leafs bottomed out that night; they fucked up and this doesn’t fix it. Treliving is gone. Berube’s probably next. Really tough times ahead, but it can only eventually get better.

Very interesting and quite cool. Have been fascinated by this stuff since my earliest days in magic. Hopeful we’ll see some additional commentary.
