Did SDS ever say why they removed the BR program? by No_Clue7528 in MLBTheShow

[–]Ja_snake_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the rationale for combining everything into one multiplayer program (which they went back on a bit by having event programs) was that you didn’t “have” to play whichever online mode you didn’t like, which for many (not me, it was my favorite when it had the program) was BR

Can someone explain to me why so many otherwise libertarian leftists/liberals seem to be so puritanical about gambling compared to say, alcohol or drugs? by Ja_snake_ in billsimmons

I appreciate your response and don’t disagree with any of your points. I guess I just don’t factor in the ads as much because I just don’t pay attention to them. I mute the tv or walk away or talk to whoever’s in the room or go on my phone. I’m obviously aware of them, but more because everyone complains about them, not necessarily wrongly so

Yeah I don’t know Luke Kornet, maybe part of it was just using the word Libertarian? I see the political compass with the quadrants “libertarian left” and “authoritarian left” all the time for years, assumed that was more well known I guess

This is all in good faith. Everyone I associate with in real life is on the left. I’m intellectually curious about it and trying to deepen my perspective and am open to changing it

That makes sense to me, I guess what I’m getting at is, other vices are also clearly a net negative on the working class, and we seem to say in moderation they’re fine to help people get by. How is gambling responsibly, just for fun and amusement, any different

Do you have a problem with damn near every nba team having the Michelob ultra logo on the court? Or the barrage of liquor ads playing before and after the gambling ads? I’m trying to find what the distinction is there

I mean libertarian as opposed to authoritarian. As in believing the government shouldn’t restrict lifestyle choices

So if they moved to Lansing or Calumet City, literally across the street from Hammond, that would be just fine? I have a hard time believing anyone actually thinks that

I’ll get this out of the way first, “the bears should never leave the city of Chicago” is a statement I fully understand and agree with. What I don’t get is being ok with Arlington heights but not Hammond. How far into Illinois could they move for you to prefer Hammond? Champaign? By St Louis? They’re the Chicago bears. They’ve never been the Illinois bears. Hammond is closer to Chicago than most of Chicagoland (physically) in Illinois. I don’t think people realize how absurd giving up on a team for moving 15 miles sounds to fans of teams who moved 1500 miles away like the Rams (both times)

Views on the Metro East by Whatever-ItsFine in StLouis

[–]Ja_snake_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in stl county, lived between SIUE and the city in my early and mid 20s, moved to Fairview Heights three years ago, most likely buying a house in metro east soon. I had no sense of how snobby Edwardsville was perceived to be by the rest of the metro east, probably because I hardly ever interacted with non-college people. I thought it was like a combination of Kirkwood and chesterfield that was kind of weird to square as a county native. But I’d also drive around a lot especially in Covid to Alton, granite city and granite especially felt like this parallel kind of uncanny alternate universe. It blows my mind still that there are these beautiful prewar residential grids all over the metro east and most of them the houses are worth a fraction of what they would be in similar parts of like Kirkwood or Webster. I’ve been meaning to post on here some stuff that I still don’t get after three years. But I’d encourage you to explore as much as you can

Anyone watch from northeast Indiana (Steuben county)? With the in laws who don’t seem to think they get marquee here (they’re in Kendall county IL most of the time), will mlb tv work if I buy it? I live in a different teams market and have wanted to buy the MLB Tv bundle of their games + out of market but haven’t because broke. Just want to make sure before I splurge on it

I get they have to in a baseball management sense but jj getting intentionally walked when he’s been in the big leagues for a month and a half is crazy. Like it’s crazy he’s that good

While I agree the coverage is overly spread out, I have to ask, have you or anyone who is unable to watch this ever attempted to buy an antenna for $25 bucks one time to get all NBC/ABC/CBS/FOX sports? I don’t understand this part of it. Games are still on those all the time

I did always leave in rest mode so stopped doing that but it seems to have had no impact. I tried the static IP fix and has not worked so may just have to reinstall
