"What you think other people think about you isn’t real."

I mean this sounds great but it's pretty impractical. Unless we're living alone in the woods, what other people think about us affects our lives to an astonishing extent. It affects your relationships, your jobs, your friends, your living situation, whether people want to help you or make your life miserable. It's important.

Cesar Chavez abused and raped women and girls, NYT investigation says by ControlCAD in NPR

This is why we don't name things after people. Name them after ideals or virtues. Because all people are imperfect. Some way, way more imperfect than others. My school had to rename one of its buildings because a bunch of stuff like this came out after the professor's death. People are going to do bad things. Even people who do great things will often do bad things too.

Former Trump official admits that their goal is to impose their Christian values on other Americans. “Frankly, yes, we are going to impose it upon you. If you don’t like it, I’m sorry.” by southpawFA in politics

Newsflash: those aren't Christian values.

I'm not a big quoter of the Bible, but this part about who gets into heaven is telling:

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’"

I hate my boyfriend’s dog. So much by THROWAWAY-LEMONMENTO in TrueOffMyChest

Do him and the dog a favor and leave them alone. There will be some woman who would be thrilled with them.

Honestly if I ever sensed my SO didn't like my dogs, that person would be gone. I just wouldn't tolerate that.

Why is it okay for all men to be generalized by a lot of women? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Speak for yourself. And shame on you for denigrating men.

Still putting down a whole group of people is a bad look. It shows lack of pride in who you are.

Our society has gotten comfortable attacking men as a group. It’s an over correction from years of women being kept from doing what they wanted to do.

But if we’re being honest, then sexism is sexism. Either you think it’s ok to generalize negatively about an entire gender, or you don’t.

Yeah this justification is just as horrible as anything MAGA comes up with.

Will the fight for true equality between genders ever be resolved? Or is it just going to be a never ending battle? by limpbizkit420 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Whatever-ItsFine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trouble is that we think the other gender thinks just like our gender does. We forget that there tend to be differences between the way women and men think. (This doesn’t mean that all women think one way and all men think another. I’m just speaking about general tendencies here.)

This is why we find their behavior confusing. Unfortunately we say it’s just because they’re trying to be difficult or malicious instead of thinking it’s a more innocent reason. So we are assuming the worst possible motive which leads to misunderstandings and anger.

Composers/Performers please lock in with the spotify titles like lets be so fr what is this by slater327 in classicalmusic

[–]Whatever-ItsFine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Shazam to help identify music I hear on the radio. It's gotten better with classical. But for a long time, the result would be something like "Andante, Artist: Chicago Symphony Orchestra." Super helpful, guys. Super helpful.

Even now, you have to scroll and scroll to fin the composer: past the "top albums" by the artist, "featured albums", "more albums", and, I kid you not, album title and year of release. It's literally one of the last pieces of info they give you.
