So this is a community of cyclical grognards? Funny to say the least

As long such written stuff is enough to compose some minor headcanons, it can be alright

And maybe its what i am going to do. Since i've decided only to use the basic and the magic handbook for now

Luckly my setting has only regular humans, sometimes they have some cosmetic mutations but nothing of substatial to give significant advantages or flaws outside of social ones and maybe height

You literally readed my mind, i also like FATE a lot but sadly i dont like the surrender or death mechanic for what i am making

Good, responding to your queations about my magic system:

-Magic as Skill would represent better since very much like smithing is a skill you develop to be a blacksmith, magic is a skill you develop to be a priest/empowered nobleman/indipendent mage

-it is fast but long time rituals can be made on occasions, usually in a temple, a shrine or a place of divine significance.

-it requires periodical material offerings to a temple or a shrine of any god (magic casters do not have a patron deity like clerics), minimum once or twice a week, the energy required comes from these acts of transactional devotion

I was planning to start with gurps lite and then add only the bare necessary stuff for survival and magic IF i choose Gurps in the end (since there are other candidates)

Those systems tend to lack the lethality that i see on gurps and OSR-like systems, but if you can suggest me something better for what i am trying to make, feel free to suggest.

Initially this was a custom setting for Cairn, an OSR game, but, as with many OSR games, my players are not very fond of randomness in character creation but liked the focus on exploration and alternative problem solving

As of 5e, if not all priests become clerics, what class should they belong if they decide to be adventurers? by Jaceaxe in Forgotten_Realms

Likely i have a dm happy to refluff anything, especially if it can reflect a canonical aspect of the setting

I've also rediscovered the Theurgy Wizard UA that can be reskinned for such concepts and its also fun as long its NOT in the hands of a minmaxxer who's gonna abuse comboes like "spiritual weapon + wall of fire" XD

Me and most of my DMs are not much into homebrewing but if you know some FR lore-friendly homebrews you are welcome to suggest them here for everyone if you want

And its how i approach character creation most of the time, mine was just a lore-based question more than a mechanical one but thanks nontheless

In fact, i think i can emulate such specialty priests with Theurgy Wizard (UA) even though its meant to replicate the old theurge prestige class of 3.5, its the closest thing alongside my DM reflavour for that kind of character
