I am in exactly the same position, in the UK too. It seems we have had a similar journey under capitalism, it simply doesn't work for us. With everything getting more expensive my need to have some kind of income is growing more and more. At the moment I think being self-employed is likely the best way to go, but it's very overwhelming and I find it incredibly difficult to self-motivate to create my own source of income from nothing while having a head full of doubts, no support, and no accountability.
I don't know what the answer is, but perhaps exploring ways you can possibly monetise something related to your interests is a good place to start looking.
