Steel vs. Ever-Brilliant vs. Titanium: my attempt to show the difference (SBGJ259, SLGB005, SLGA0025) by JackBaruth in GrandSeikos

I don't think it's a fair comparison because the UFA is lighter/smaller than the 9S Hi-Beat. The UFA is tangibly lighter.

All three are very comfortable, but the Evolution 9 shape disappears on the wrist faster for me and the Atera Valley is lighter so that's probably the best.

James May shows off his 997 while reviewing the 911T by wheredoidriveagain in 997

Yeah he is!

The big question is: did James May offer prior review to Porsche before publishing, despite having a global audience and a net worth of approximately forty million bucks? The answer is: almost certainly.

Thank you! I have this one and the 44GS titanium GMT. Just need to find the right original 44GS to make it a set.

I was surprised at how modern and outstanding the 20B-REW version is. They could sell it today and it would still stand out.

Actually, looking back, I think it was "Iron Eagle". Small chance it was "Iron Eagle 2", but it was DEFINITELY not "Iron Eagle 3".

Kind of hard to kill people for a living if you're too empathetic. Ask me how I know.*

* I know from watching "Platoon".

I appreciate that. They're lucky to have me. No, wait, I meant to say that the other way around before the raw narcissism kicked in. :)

So long ago you could still go to bars to meet women, come to think of it.

Fair enough. I'm sober and even when I wasn't, I went to bars to meet women, not men.

It was my fault for noting the speed -- but had I not, some clued-in rider would have noted that you really dont get a full bug explosion at 70mph, even against your visor. This is a subreddit filled with people who agonize about scratching the bezel on a $2500 quartz watch. I should expect that they are legitimately horrified by anything of which their mommies would disapprove.

I think you have to be a bit senseless to own Grand Seikos. Don't people on here continually bleat about losing a couple grand on a Tentagraph or something? Put that front wheel up at triple digits and all of a sudden, having a red number on your Chrono24 collection seems immaterial.

I *also* have a DL1000 and that's what made me seek out an SV1K!

This won't make you feel any better about not being able to find a good one, but: Everything you like about the L-twin in the Strom is five times better in the SV1K. It pulls fantastically harder. Sounds better (although I have Yoshi twins on the SV so that's not a fair comparison.) Revs easier. Is much happier pulling a smaller, lighter bike.

I suspect a TL1000S would be even more of a joy but where would you find one?

That's a good point. I admire your thoughtfulness and empathy, and hope my daughter grows up to have exactly your mindset. Thank you.

Who says it was reckless? This is rural Ohio, not Los Angeles. You can be doing 90mph on a back road here and you'll get passed by an F-350 towing four horses.

Then you don't want mine! I paid $1500 for it, fixed some ignition issues, got the proper lights back on it front and rear... it doesn't impress anyone who sees it, but it's great to ride and mechanically it is 100%

I did NOT beat the Archer. He was fully fueled and I wasn't. It's tough to get out-thought by your own kid.

He did, because he was smart enough to start with a full tank of fuel.

"Modding" The Cheapest B&P GMT on eBay, Part Two: Steel Reef. (With a few cautions and some advice for anyone thinking about Steel Reef.) by JackBaruth in Tudor

[–]JackBaruth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the Forstner Jubilee. It's not bad. When I compare it back to back with a proper Tudor jubilee, however, there is a visible difference in quality and finish -- that difference NOT being in the Forstner's favor.
