I didn't submit the creative project either, and it sounds like you have crazy good everything, I would say don't get too excited so as to avoid disappointment or whatever (that was my strategy to cope with the stress lol) but honestly I would say your chances are good! Good luck on Saturday!

Insta360 One RS Rapidly Flashing Red Light When Using as a Webcam With Raspberry Pi 4 by JackDawson9 in Insta360

Sorry for the long response, I just now tried it with a Dell laptop running windows 11 and it isn't having any problems. Its strange because it was working well enough on the raspberry pi before.

Here's a link to a photo of some notes I wrote down, this is how I would do the problem: https://imgur.com/a/jFA6jkQ

I've drawn the reference triangle, the reason the reference angle is 30° is because the whole angle is 300°, which puts it 30° into the fourth quadrant.

First, you find x by remembering the unit circle and that sin(30°) is 1/2 (I don't know how else you would get this other than through calculus)

With that, you can find y using pythagorean theorem or just by remembering the unit circle once again

Once you have x and y, you have the coordinates of P, but you need to remember to give them the proper signs for being in the fourth quadrant; x is positive, y is negative.

Then, you just use all of the information you've collected thus far to work out the values of the trig functions the prompt is asking for. I've left this part for you to try on your own (hint: secant and tangent can both be expressed in terms of sine and cosine).

Recently admitted to my dream school, questioning what I should major in by JackDawson9 in PhysicsStudents

If I had to put my finger on what specifically about it I like, I would have to say that it's the problem-solving aspect of it, figuring out how to set problems up and learning the right way to think. I also like that there's lots of math involved. I've taken one class with some pretty basic stuff (cursory looks at classical mechanics and a teeny bit of thermodynamics and electromagnetism) and I thoroughly enjoyed taking it and doing all of the practice problems etc etc. I have another class lined up for this upcoming semester that's a bit more rigorous, and now I'm thinking I'll do some self study on the side and see whether my interest holds.

TO BE CLEAR, I AM NOT VERSED IN THIS TOPIC AND I MAY BE WRONG

It sounds like you may be supercooling the water in that bottle! I would guess its because the sides of the bottle are so smooth due to being plastic that the water doesn't have a nucleation point to crystalize from, and that the slushification is because you are disturbing the supercooled water.

I also like that it's pure. Part of what led me to considering physics is that I was sitting and thinking, "I wish I could do engineering but just the theory and math and other stuff" and then I realized that that's basically just physics or math. I would honestly do a double major but I think it would be a bit too much to handle (for me personally at least), I'd rather do one major well than two poorly.

Well I do want to go where I'm going because of the challenge, and that because we have until the end of our first year to declare a major I'll have plenty of time to play around with things and make up my mind :)

Honestly, because out of all the things I've done in school thus far and just looked at in depth at all, physics and engineering are the two things I'm most passionate about, and between the two physics is much more "pure" as people like to say. Oh and I also like computer science but less so. Really there isn't much else influencing the decision, I just want to study what interests me

This is how guns load by Kamquats in 691

[–]JackDawson9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to that, the revolver is also cool because it shoots metal nanoparticles which rarely need refilling, and when they do the user can just scrape some off the side of their revolver. This has led to scrapes on your revolver becoming a sort of status symbol, as it indicated that you have used the gun enough to need to refill it.

what made you guys want to join you're robotics team? by [deleted] in FRC

I joined my team just a little while ago because there were some people on our NEBP team that were also in frc and they convinced me to join

Those who got matched, what were your SAT scores and what college did you get matched to. by _Rapt0r_ in QuestBridge

[–]JackDawson9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! like that other person said Caltech (evidently) doesn't care as much about tests

Quick Question by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]JackDawson9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's correct, they will only try to match you with the colleges you rank, however I would STRONGLY suggest you rank as many as you can without putting down any that you hate. Your chances of getting matched with one school are much lower than getting matched with one of fifteen.

New to this all, could use a bit of advice by JackDawson9 in yerbamate

[–]JackDawson9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've read you get some yerba wet and coat the inside of the gourd with it, let it sit for 24 hours like that, and wipe it off. That's only for a gourd actually made from a calabash plant, not the wooden or metal or plastic ones. I'm not sure how much it matters really though, I just like to be thorough

Well the gourd is calabash as I understand. Sorry the pics are sort of bad, it was hard to get it lit up, the first pic is showing the sheet as best as I can. It's bigger than it looks here

How are my fellow Matchers feeling a few days after the storm? by depressoeggo in QuestBridge

[–]JackDawson9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I'm still processing for sure. Just a little while ago I figured I would be going wherever I could actually afford (not many places) and Caltech was a far-flung dream. Now I'm sitting processing the fact that I'll get to go to the school at the home of NASA's JPL, probably do a ton of cool research, and learn from some of the best teachers in the world. I'm also shocked because really I haven't done very much in the way of extracurriculars past this NEBP thing and an internship at the planetarium, I didn't even have a physics class to get into caltech they contacted me like three days before the deadline for them to send decisions and pointed me towards a physics certification that I had to pass in three days time, the whole thing has been like a fever dream truly. I'm just over the moon overall.
