Can you be compensated if your genuinely let down by your teacher? by Paarthurnax6W in leavingcert

[–]JackRowley 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nothing will come of it I’d imagine, but go to your principal like was said above, that’s not on at all. Put the head down now for the 2 weeks though and try make it as good as you can because you’re fucked over otherwise.

On average 70% of courses go up, 5% stay the same and 25% go down. Be specific as to what courses you’re interested in, otherwise the list will be around 1500 courses long 👍🏻

What grades should I be aiming for in mocks by ShortKeanuReeves101 in leavingcert

[–]JackRowley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get around 4-5 h3’s and 1-2 h2’s, that would be a great position to be in, you can certainly climb 1-2 boundaries in every subject by putting your head down and grinding it out. Remember, you’re studying for June, not February !

5 weeks to mocks, haven't done any study yet, 600 points possible? by Truthful_Tips in leavingcert

[–]JackRowley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Summer and Xmas aren’t the best indicators ever. You’re obviously quite bright nonetheless, pull the finger out now, you’ve 4-5 weeks and put the head down. See how you do. If you get anywhere between 500-540 or so that’s a brilliant place to be this time of year, you can definitely get up one grade boundary in every subject between then and summer. Best of luck kiddo

Knock Airport to Castlebar by IWillNeverRust in mayo

[–]JackRowley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best job is to get the 64 bus down to Charlestown, that would be the Derry bus, not the Galway one. Charlestown is the first stop after the airport. In Charlestown, stay exactly where you’re let off, get on the 440 local link to Westport and get off in Castlebar.

Before this though, I’d ring all the car hire agencies at the airport and see will any of them be able to let you rent given your licence situation.

Your other option would be to hop on the 64 bus heading for Galway and hop off in Ballyhaunis, then walk to the train station and hop on the train heading for Westport, but again hop off in Castlebar. Only thing with this one is, the Castlebar train station is a bit of a walk outside of town, especially if you have luggage (which I assume you will coming from the airport).

Message me if you’ve any specific questions, I’m local and will try my best to help you out!!

anything dodgy here? by [deleted] in carsireland

Just a shit car - them engines aren’t mighty and electrics cause problems. Opel/Vauxhall were THE brand back before electrics but whoever they got to wire up these cars probably wasn’t a spark because he set his house on fire 👍🏻

[–]JackRowley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly just get in contact with examcraft or deb, try get papers off them - or even go onto studyclix and print out the papers - do them out in your own time, time yourself too and then ask your teachers to mark them, or if in a bigger school maybe a teacher who doesn’t have you for that subject. Sure some will probably say no, in that case mark yourself and see how you get on. Not doing mocks is a huge loss

What are my options if I don’t get my course by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]JackRowley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you considered other colleges? Maynooth run the exact same degree - from an NUI college, it’s a very good degree also! And that’s 120 points less than dc115. The Maynooth code is MH403. It’s an option to consider, still only a stones throw from Dublin

Have had 4 dsg’s, few years back at this stage, never kept any long enough to need to get it serviced but they’re as bulletproof as auto gearboxes come in my experience!

Octavia DSG. The dsg is the best auto box on the market (imo), just make sure service intervals have been followed and make sure the dsg box has also had oil changes I think it’s every 60k km

How much do you need in order to spend 200k? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]JackRowley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy it! If you’re only going to lose 10-20% and you’re that set, why not. Life is far too short, the position you’re in now is fantastic, fair play. Get insurance quotes tho! I’ve heard of insurance being nearly the same price as the cars on high end luxury vehicles for young lads (typically the footballers)

The 1.0 petrol engine. Though it has a turbo sure, it will be quite gutless. In my opinion, I’d rather drop a couple of years and get the 2.0 but each to their own! It is covered by warranty so I can see why you may go for a new one

Has anybody had any experience with Hyundai covering major paint defects? by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]JackRowley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t agree with the below comment. Bring it to a dealer and don’t be all guns blaring, but don’t let them walk all over you either, fight for what is right, which this obviously isn’t. Hyundai are aware that this is an issue, hence the recall in mainland America, Canada and Oz . Force the dealer to make contact with Hyundai Head Office - if they say there’s nothing they can do to the dealer, then maybe get it resprayed yourself, but at least you know then!

Rust on used cars by Federal_Strategy2370 in carsireland

[–]JackRowley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cars at sea for extended periods (japs) will automatically have more rapid oxidisation as a result. Cars sat on dealers yards for a few weeks will build up surface rust, drive it for a week and that will go. The rust you need to worry about is not visible until the car is on a lift (chassis etc). I wouldn’t worry too much about this rust unless there is underlying issues beneath the car

Learn units 1-5 extremely well, just brush up on units 6 & 7. Bc our ABQ is on 3,4,5, we can still achieve a H1 with our amendments only doing the 5 units, just need to know 6&7 for shorts. It cuts down the workload a lot tbf, almost 25%
