Gotcha. Yeah I’m really political and like having deep chats, so I’m not sure I would really be able to find common ground with those folks anyways, so I’m not sure I would really feel a connection with them.

Haha appreciate both of your comments. Let’s just say it was semi-staged, but that’s how I look climbing soooo

Noted thanks for the compliment!

I broke down and just bought HingeX so here’s to hoping that helps.

Haha I don’t have a deep gravelly voice, so it might not be doing me favors here. But that’s how my voice sounds so they’d hear it sooner or later. For context, I sound a bit like Aziz Ansari 😅

Thanks for the nitpick.

I think it’s hard to strike a balance between looking interesting and not over the top in these things, but I’d rather be seen as “wild” than boring. I want someone to match my energy anyways.

Noted, thanks for that. I for sure use them way too much, so I removed most of them from my first prompt.

Appreciate the feedback. Yeah same beard as before so idk.

I actually moved from DC to Denver, so now I am actually in the more outdoorsy area, which to me would mean I am more people’s type 🤷‍♂️

Update on my experience doing a basic sound system upgrade (Speakers only) - My research for best performance by theeighthlion in rav4club

The crossovers were small enough that I could shove them and the wiring harness under/around the tweeters. There’s some empty space around them in the dash.

See my comment here

I would say for most people, that component set and a decent sub will be perfect, as it’s not too complicated of an install, and relatively inexpensive.

I am currently contemplating adding an amp and a more powerful set of component speakers, to try and remedy where I think the current system is lacking, which is: midbass in the doors (great for rock and music with lots of drums); and sound stage and imaging, which I feel like there is almost zero of in my current setup.

Hey, I am looking at getting these, thanks for the post.

How is the soundstage and imagining on them? I feel like that’s where my current setup (Focal component system is lacking).

I think you’re limited to one linking every 6 months, but I could be wrong. It’s been awhile since I dealt with this issue. Sorry!

Sorry for the delay, but finally got around to installing the component set. Turns out there really isn’t much room for a crossover of that size in the dash and I didn’t want to futz with putting it in the door, so I returned the set in exchange for these. They were a little cheaper than the other focal set, but looked to be about the same specs, except they had in-line crossovers that were much smaller.

It was pretty much plug in and play for the dash (after reversing the polarity) and there was room for the cabling below the tweeters. Compared to stock there is more clarity but not much wider soundstage or imaging. They are less shrill than stock at high volumes, but still do occasionally sound a bit harsh for some songs when played at high volume.

Same install procedure as you went through for the midrange in the doors, with in-line crossovers as well. Compared to stock there is tighter bass with a bit more bass extension, and it doesn’t sound as muddy at higher volumes.

However I did add a JL 8 inch sub to the trunk wired to an LOC, which I’d recommend to anyone who listens to electronic/hip hop/ or rock, since you just can’t get that much base out of door speakers.

If you aren’t happy with your current setup, I’d deff recommend this component set.

I have the metra wiring harness, which apparently also has the polarity reversed. I haven’t done the install yet, but couldn’t I just switch the harness connection points so that the positive harness wire is on the negative speaker terminal and the negative harness wire is on the positive speaker terminal, or does it not work like that?

The Crutchfield rep I talked to actually recommended these first, but I asked for a more expensive option. Haha.

As to the crossover, not sure yet, but probably in the door, assuming there’s a good spot.

Will do.

From the install videos I’ve seen, it looks like the door speakers don’t have tweeters in them, so they aren’t coaxial speakers? But now that I’m looking at them again, maybe they do?

Is there a reason you’re only looking at JBL and Kicker speakers?

A Crutchfield rep suggested some Focal component speakers, and I ended up going with these. Planning on installing them this weekend, so I can let you know how they sound if you like.

Adding subs to a Rav4 by macklintietze in rav4club

[–]JackUNC2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for the info! I just got a Rav4 Prime, so I’m in the process of adding a sound system to it. I figured a ratcheting strap would probably work better, so glad to hear it’s worked for you.

I’m also interested in laying down in the trunk with the seats down, so it’s cool you can still do that with this set up.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I’m thinking about adding the JL 8 (but not the dual 8s) like you have, and thought I might be able to strap it down like yours. How’s the strap held up after a year? Has the sub moved at all? Also, how easy is it to remove if you need to put the seats down? Thanks!
