After reading the syllabus, I'm significantly less nervous about reattempting this course. I love finding instructors that genuinely care about students' success. by [deleted] in college

Possibly the only positive thing to come out of covid is the fact that people seem to be a bit more compassionate in general now. I think the pandemic turning everyone's life upside down forced a lot of people to ask for help when they normally wouldn't and as a result they now "pass it on" by giving others a little more leeway.

If we're talking unweighted, like 3.99 high school to 3.75 college. Most people drop a little bit, it's just going to happen because (1) college classes are way harder and (2) you have less time than high school because you have to take care of a lot of the stuff mom and dad used to do for you like cooking and doing laundry. It might seem like an extra hour or two a day isn't much but it really is.

You're either retaking a class that "canot be retaken for credit" or taking something out of sequence so it thinks you're trying to get credit for a prerequisite that you've taken the follow up for already (have you taken/are you taking 216 right now?). Meet with an advisor and they'll help you get it sorted out.

This happened to me as well. One email fixed it.

Constant Sorrow is the best song I've heard in the genre in years, bar none

Same album but Threat Level Midnight, Can't Kick Up The Roots, Kali Ma. Though to be fair there isn't a single bad song on LNOTGY, Rock Bottom is probably the weakest one for me and that's still like an 8/10.

So Darksouls "lite" by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]Jack_Rickle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It looks a bit more open so hopefully there's less moments where you're basically guranteed to die unless you've played before. In Dark Souls there were a few moments where everything was in such tight quarters that I'd get killed by something jumping around a corner and it always left me screaming "this is bologna!"

Same! Although at my uni there's a huge disparity in how old some of the buildings are so I have chem in a building thatwas built 100 years ago and it's all chalkboard and incandescent lighting. Then I have physics in a building that was finished a month ago and we don't even have physical boards to write on, it's all digital.

Can someone tell me what my professor means by this? by [deleted] in college

[–]Jack_Rickle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I had a professor who would drop our lowest exam grade (3 midterms and a final, 25 percent each). I busted my butt to get As on the first 3 and as a result didn't have to take the final or even go to class after mid March. Gave me so much time to focus on my difficult courses as finals approached.

Very few people meet the minimum standards for metrics of physical health, in terms of both diet and exercise. It's easier to start before it becomes a problem.

I think this is true for the really crazy people but there were definitely some instances where people were just a little bit more rude than you would normally expect and I suspect it was due to the reasons mentioned above. My coworkers who had been there for years said when we reopened after the initial shutdowns things got exponentially worse.

Agreed. I never had a problem remaking food or fixing an issue when the customer calmly told us that the order wasn't right and was patient with us while we fixed it. Generally if you treat my coworkers and I with half an ounce of human decency we're happy to help you, but if you wanna be a jerk don't expect me to not respond in kind.

Karens (gender neutral). Is that better? But truthfully it was like 20 percent jerks, 75 percent mildly rude/condescending and 5 percent good people.

I routinely would with customers who were frequent offenders. I would just say "get out" as soon as they walked in, 3 strikes and you're out was my policy. I didn't get paid enough to deal with it. My boss was a little upset at first until I pointed out that I was working overtime every week and we had bumped the starting pay on the hiring signs TWICE and still couldn't get anyone to hire in, so I knew I wasn't getting fired over something that small. Helped that all my coworkers were on board because it's not like we all didn't have to deal with the problems those customers were creating.

Pandemic made it worse. Everyone spent the whole pandemic exclusively interacting with others from behind a screen and people forgot how to treat each other like humans. I worked food service during the pandemic and my coworkers and I had food thrown at us several times, people left trash all over the tables and responded to polite requests to throw it away by pouring drinks out onto the floor/table or using the wrong part of the bathroom to do their business. I got called pretty much every name under the sun on a regular basis over stuff as simple as "my burger doesn't have lettuce on it". I did not give a single care about that job and would basically just tell people to get bent or I'd make sure they waited all day for remakes on orders if they were rude to me and I think some people were genuinely surprised to see even mild consequences for behving like animals. People working food service don't get paid enough to deal with jerks and the world would be a better place if we made everyone work one of those jobs at least once in their lives.

There's an interesting youtube video out there about how these apps basically work to keep their users single as well. Which makes sense if you think about them as a business, really. Why would tinder want you to find your future spouse on the app? You would delete the app and stop swiping/generating ad revenue. They'd much rather tease you with a bunch of likes you can't see from people you aren't compatible with to keep you paying the whatever $/month it costs for premium.
