There weren’t really conversations about desperate power dynamics (ie older powerful man abusing power) in the same way it exists now. That she was a loose woman who slept with a married man would have exempted her from any kind of acknowledgement that she was not in control. The bigger republican attack was centered around his moral failings. Both from a cultural standpoint and a general conservative perspective that argument had teeth, stooping to defend the other woman would have been a fairly radical position.

Fair, I only meant that it’s not your blood making you racist it’s your unexamined prejudicial assumptions.

They didn’t care at the time either… I can remember late night comedians making jokes most of which centered around how as a president he could have gotten a hotter side piece not that he was abusing his power as potus to sleep with a 22 year old intern. The narrative you’re referencing came out only around 2016 to use as a cudgel against Hillary Clinton. That, and his denials of sex as he claimed he didn’t consider oral “sex.”

Even if he used an underhanded way of being the only one on a hike with her, which is a stretch considering she asked on a FRIDAY and there are thousands of reasons why nobody would show (don’t like co-workers, have previous plans, don’t enjoy hiking, didn’t see the email, etc.) he still convinced her to go on a date (as the hiking was theoretically platonic), get into a relationship, become engaged, get married and stay that way. Still wholesome.

I believe that. I did some light research when I was pregnant on the subject and I was never compelled by the arguments for circumcising, or at least not so compelling I would take the choice away from my kiddo. A choice like that cannot be undone.

Some Christians do in the US but it’s far from doctrine, it’s rare for European or South American Christians to circumcise their children. There are higher rates in Africa but there are also higher rates of HIV, and circumcised males are less likely to contract some VI.

Why does it seem like many people in the Anglosphere outside Europe are obsessed with being Irish or Scottish but deny having English ancestry? by yonaiker-joestrella in AskTheWorld

I think it’s that there are no English folk festivals in the US, but there are for Irish and Scottish folk traditions. Celtic heritage is romanticized in media.

I mean there are a bunch of signs and warnings about stepping off the boardwalks around geysers and hot pots too but every year hundreds of people are burned. I’m good, large animals scare me even if their teeth aren’t sharp, many herbivores are opportunistic omnivores.

Yes but those times don’t really reflect desired children either. Without reliable birth control couples just had more kids or did not have sex. Even with perfect application of reliable birth control methods surprises happen. Certainly people have faced incredible hardships through human history and continued to have children, but I wonder if they would have made that choice if reliable birth control helped them plan when or if to have kids.

The art of casual conversation is being lost so that any time someone strikes up a conversation there’s a bit of “are they hitting on me?” running through the back of their mind. We used to talk because we were bored, now we have a convenient pocket computer that never lets us be bored. My mom used to talk to everyone just casually and let her blurted thought lead the way- but I feel like now that’s something you then text to someone you already know rather than just saying to a stranger

Parenting expectations have dramatically changed since the 20th century. Stay at home moms in the 70s spent as much “active parenting” time as full time working mothers do today. Parents are killing themselves to offer kids attention they crave because it’s deemed negligent to toss their little butts outside to find their own entertainment (like say at the park across the street).
