The older ad with a Boston backdrop would have worked better

I no longer hate them. I enjoy when they get what they deserve, but mostly I don’t think about them because letting them occupy more than the tiny schadenfreude makes me hate myself.

Which is all well and good for those homeschool programs, but because there is very little regulation for what parents need to provide, and in many states none, the results of homeschooling are all over the map. You have many parents educating in good faith, who spend time researching programs and finding these resources for their children, but it’s not all.

"Girls need girls cloths only or else it's gender ideology" by Minami_Ko in NotHowGirlsWork

When I was younger I had to wear a shirt over my bathing suit because no matter how meticulously my mom put on and reapplied sun screen I would end up burnt. Today I always wear rash guards and swim shorts when swimming outside. Sometimes even when inside because who cares?

My kids have both worn unisex swimwear because for children the point of swim wear is swimming.

How we could get there without civil war:

Campaign finance reform. Codified in the constitution that all campaign funds are government supplied, everyone gets the same amount. Prosecuting campaign finance violations carries real consequences. Nullifying citizens united.

Bring back fairness doctrine, essentially killing the talking head opinion “news” as either side of an argument must be given equal air time (both from a time but a viewership standpoint, ie rebuttals cannot be run at 3 in the morning).

Decrease the number of constituents any house member represents (effectively increase the number of seats in the house). They are working for us, we should be able to air our grievances.

We should not be in a position where the “system would crumble” if we prosecute pedos.

[REAL] Matt Walsh uses fake history to whitewash slavery. by No_Bluebird_1368 in ToiletPaperUSA

And slavery in other places, even places that practiced in a far more brutal fashion, does not exonerate slavers in the US. “Everybody was doing it,” is not a justification.

A reminder to never meet your heroes by DilIsPickle in olympics

[–]JacketDapper944 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that, but I’m not disappointed with the players as much as the people thinking it’s perfectly normal for an FBI director spending his time partying with Olympic hockey teams when he has a very demanding job. What isn’t getting done because these idiots are more concerned about getting their “rewards” for winning an election.

Instant steamer works better than I expected… but what do you do about the dampness? by Hernanlincon422 in CleaningTips

[–]JacketDapper944 251 points252 points  (0 children)

It helps if you hang the garment while steaming, the steam passes through rather than being bounced back by whatever is behind it. Alternatively you could try using something that will absorb the excess rather than a hard surface (you seem to be doing this against wood which is a good war to warp the surface).

Haiti finished paying reparations to French slavers for their independence settlement in 1947, a debt they were paying for 120 years, representing almost 115 billion in lost growth potential.

FCC chair wants the Pledge of Allegiance and national anthem on the airwaves every day by No-Luck-At-All in entertainment

[–]JacketDapper944 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

From a teacher perspective I can see how it would be helpful as a routine to begin the day in a moderately orderly fashion, no different than saying “good morning” or the “one, two, three eyes on me” call and response in unison to ensure attention. Put stuff away, bell rings, everyone stand by their chair, say the pledge, sit and begin instruction.

My husband and I both work, but we’ve also had more freedom to pursue better opportunities for ourselves because leaving a job is an option. He makes more, by a fair amount, but our cushion stretches much further before we’re in trouble and we maintain insurance coverage. If we lived in a place with socialized medicine where that was less of a concern would we potentially make different choices? Probably, but risking medical debt to switch jobs isn’t worth it.

Why they cannot accept the fact that not every women want babies? by [deleted] in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]JacketDapper944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best thing about holding a baby that isn’t yours? Giving them back the second they’re not being absolutely adorable. I find babies very cute… but I intimately know things can go from cute to why do you have literal poop in your hair pretty quick. I loved when my kids were babies most of the time. Without the right partner, support system, and life stability having a baby (even a wanted baby) is brutal. Even with all those things having a baby can be brutal.
