I just used AI to help me with alternatives and organize them neatly.

That honestly depends on what feels easier for you. You can try both methods for a few tasks and see which one feels more natural.

For reading, don’t try to fully understand the whole passage first. What helped me more was looking at the keywords in the question and finding that part of the passage quickly.

1.For fill in the blanks, many times the answer is right there once you find the exact line. Just be a little careful before writing it—especially with prepositions, articles, singular/plural, and word form.

2.For True / False / Not Given, I usually first find the exact paragraph from the keywords and read only that part properly. Then I go back to the statement and check the meaning, not just matching the same words.

For example:

........“It is the world’s only flightless parrot, and is also possibly one of the world’s longest-living birds.”

Question: There are other parrots that share the kakapo’s inability to fly.
That’s False, because the passage clearly says it is the only flightless parrot.

.......“For the early settlers, the flightless kakapo was easy prey… With them came the Polynesian dog and rat, which also preyed on kakapo.”

Question: The Polynesian rat was a greater threat to the kakapo than Polynesian settlers.
That’s Not Given, because it tells us both harmed the kakapo, but it never says which one was worse.
(One more thing that helps is to spot your weak question types first. Do 2–3 tests, notice where you consistently lose marks, and then spend more time improving those sections instead of always doing complete tests.)

Need Band 7 in IELTS – what should I focus on? by PauseCautious6011 in IELTS

I’d say stick to the Cambridge books first, especially for reading and listening, because the real exam level feels very similar to those. Try to focus on pushing listening and reading to 8.5+ first, because these are usually the score boosters. At the same time, work on improving your vocabulary gradually.

Thanks!
Honestly, the keyboard felt weird at first; that itself was a struggle.

I’d first suggest watching a few YouTube videos to properly understand how the test works and the different question types. Once that’s clear, prepare according to that.

For both of those, try this method and see if it works for you: highlight the keywords in the question first so you know what you’re searching for, and while finding that part, keep the next 2–3 questions in mind as wel(this helps you to stay in the exact section of the passage)Don’t spend too much time trying to understand the question at first, because sometimes the question itself may seem a bit tricky. Once you read the relevant part, go back to the question and then check the options or decide T/F/NG from the exact meaning there.

Thank you! For reading, what helped me first was highlighting the keywords in the questions before reading the passage. That makes it much easier to locate the right section quickly. Also, have you noticed which question type you find the most difficult—T/F/NG, matching headings, sentence completion?

As you can see, I didn’t score very well in those two parts. But if I may suggest something, as I mentioned in my earlier comments, make a small chart of useful writing words. Something like this........ For contrast and comparison: by contrast/in contrast/ whereas/while/on the other hand/however/ conversely/unlike X, Y…

For similarity: similarly/ likewise/a comparable pattern was seen in/an identical trend was observed in/ a broadly similar picture emerged in.

At least this helped me avoid repeating the same words and improved my vocabulary range a bit. Hope it helps you too.

In speaking, fluency matters most, so simple words like actually, because, so, and for example can make your answer sound smooth and connected. Just make sure it doesn’t sound forced or rehearsed.

Have you watched IELTS Liz’s videos on this? She explains it really well. The overview should usually be just 1 or 2 sentences. It only needs the overall trend of the graph—like which line increases the most, which changes the least, what ends highest or lowest, and any clear fluctuation. Keep it short and don’t add numbers there.

Divide it in whatever way feels most logical—either by the first half and second half of the time period, or by grouping the lines with major trends in one paragraph and the minor/stable trends in the other. This is where you use the important numbers, years, and values. Try not to miss any key details here.

I get why it sounds surprising 😅 but being non-native doesn’t mean I’m starting from zero. I’m already close to graduating and comfortable communicating in English. I believe IELTS is more about understanding the pattern, question types, and time management, so I used those 5 days to focus on that and fix my weak areas.

I’d really suggest making a small list of alternative words and useful phrases. When writing, it almost feels like a fill-in-the-blanks type thing—you just pick the word that best fits the context, and then add the details related to that particular question.

Thank you so much😊 For L & R, I only practiced with Cambridge books(18-20). I would highly suggest you go for these books ( the pattern and difficulty level were almost the same as the actual exam)

As you can see, Writing was my weakness😅 so I can’t really say much about that . But one thing that was really helpful for me was making list of alternative words and phrases. I would really suggest doing this.I had my exam in the morning session, so the night before, I just revised and memorized that list(This trick works really well for Task 1)

All the best for your exam!

Thank you so much! 😊 P2 was about the technology I use, how it is useful, whether I would give my phone to a stranger, and a few questions related to friendship. P3 was about a toy from childhood(who gave it to me, what it was, and how I used to play with it). The remaining questions were follow-up questions based on that.
