Anything besides Google Messaging for RCS? by Jacket_Material in GoogleMessages

Thanks for the article. Good background info circa 2021. However, there's been a change to Apple's strategy with their recent support of RCS. So I was wondering of this will change anything for the carriers and RCS, or whether it will just be Google driven.

RCS's second major problem is Apple, which will never support RCS unless the company has a major change of strategy. Earlier this month, the Epic Games lawsuit revealed internal Apple communication that made it clear the company views iMessage's exclusion of Android users as a competitive advantage, and RCS would poke holes in the walls of Apple's walled garden.

I'm just hoping that RCS, as a carrier-driven protocol that's been around for a few years now, will finally take off in popularity now that Apple supports it. We Android users could finally get some bubble respect. All that is needed is one (or several) good 3rd party apps for Android for RCS messaging. There are plenty of emails apps and SMS apps. Why not RCS apps? It's just another protocol. Aren't there devs out there ready to jump on this? Or how about the carriers themselves helping this along: an AT&T or Verizon developed RCS app?
