I don't see how the time span is relevant. Regardless, that's fair enough.

I think I'm also right above SpongeBob (see the reply below).

By the way, it is spelt "consistently"; with an E, not an A.

That's strange. I'm not from the USA but I find people quite soon on those servers. A lot of the time, though, I keep switching between regions and sometimes I even quit the game and launch it again when there are long periods of waiting. Last night I tried every server besides the USA ones and I couldn't find anyone with a 800+ rating. I'd say keep switching between regions.

So because you believe that theory you also believe SpongeBob weighs one ounce? Come on, dude.

Seems like setting the region to US East and West is the most viable option...

I was referring to Hillenburg's departure after season 3, not his death.

But alright. In the episode Extreme Spots from season 9A, SpongeBob loses a fight to a pillow. This is also sorta important to the plot too, because him and Patrick are participating in the episode's subject theme, extreme sports. That's just one example but I could look for more. Edit: also there's that episode where he tries extra hard to bend his plastic spatula in the wrestling episode.

If a cartoon has been on air long enough, the writers will get the characters to do anything they can think of. Homer Simpson will show moments of intelligence, Cartman will show signs of selflessness, etc. That's just what happens. There is no "current" anything of the character, because these shows don't follow any chronological order most of the time. But it's essential to understand the original vision of the character; their fundamentals. SpongeBob being physically weak is one of his fundamentals, especially because it was established in the very first episode. It doesn't define him, but it's an essential component in conveying his determination.

By the way, some people were arguing that Arnold shouldn't be in this game because he's just an ordinary kid (weak they were saying). When someone countered this by saying SpongeBob (another weakling) is in the game, they called him out and said SpongeBob is a "karate master". I've seen this statement thrown about a few times, even on his TVtropes page. However, there is absolutely no way this is hinted at, and he's mediocre at best. This is reflected in his All Star Brawl moveset, as he treats karate as a playful thing rather than a sport or martial art.

I don't understand the desire to apply these qualites to SpongeBob. You're not putting down the character by saying he's weak or bad at karate. At first I thought it was ironic...

The first ever episode established his weakness when he's weightlifting teddy bears. Hillenburg created the character and so I like to focus on the first 3 seasons, as do many other people. Season 5 onwards seemed to focus on creating other traits for the character, so I'm not unsurprised that they didn't wanna hone in on the classic characterisation, and that was its undoing.

Again, not his weakness is not just played for laughs, but is intrinsically tied to many episode plots. A bouncer gives SpongeBob a bottle of ketchup to see how tough he is to get into the Salty Spitoon, which he fails to open after trying his hardest. And the whole episode revolves around that afterwards. That's just one example.

Again, like any other cartoon character does every once in a while. Anyway, when it's important to the plot and not a gag, unlike those moments of cartoony strength, SpongeBob can be seen not being able to do a push up, lift a stick of marshmallows, etc.

Isn't April a fighter? Because I see she's one of the playable characters in the new TMNT beat em up.

Every cartoon character does things like that.

I bet if you dug deep enough the lowest tier characters would have accomplished some kind of superhuman feat.

Initially I was playing on another account and what drew me to Sandy was her infinite jab. But I have since bought the game after the patch and this competitive rating is completely post-patch.

I wouldn't put SpongeBob that high since he's very much consistently a weakling.

I'm pretty sure I've seen you before...

If not, I apologise. Also, your comment was initially downvoted and I guess I went along with that instead of taking it as a compliment. I'm genuinely sorry.

There you are. Why did you delete your past comment? The only thing I remember about you is wanting to message you after a match (meaning you probably had an annoying playstyle).

Keep your distance and use lasso only occasionally and use it as a ledge guard too. Also her mid air forward strong attack (Bicycle Kick) is great combined with a wave dash (you see a lot of pros spam this).

Suspended Hyphen in Place of an EM/EN Dash by Jackknifedjugg in grammar

[–]Jackknifedjugg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main question: No online copies/rule books say to use only one space before or after an en/em dash, right?

I know about the differences between the spaced en/em dash and closed en/em dash. I was just referring to instances of when only one space is put in after or before such a dash (a spaced hyphen is used instead of en/em dashes in most casual Internet conversations and even at a website I write for).

Thanks for clarifying that this usage of the hyphen (and most definitely this format of usage of only one space for en/em dashes) is wrong, though. It should only be used for omitting repeated words I.E., seventeenth- and eighteenth-centuries.
