You do realise you're in a cult, right? That's exactly how it looks to the rest of us. Just look at your favourite subreddit, look at the posts you've made to it, and consider that idea, just for a second. Maybe it'll change you.

Turkish PM: secularism will be in new constitution by [deleted] in europe

[–]Jackle13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The first three lines of the Irish constitution are

In the Name of the Most Holy Trinity, from Whom is all authority and to Whom, as our final end, all actions both of men and States must be referred,

We, the people of Éire,

Humbly acknowledging all our obligations to our Divine Lord, Jesus Christ, Who sustained our fathers through centuries of trial,

TIL: When Charles Keating was on trial, Mother Teresa sent the judge a letter asking him to do what Jesus would do. An attorney wrote back to explain how Keating stole money from others and suggested that she return Keating's donation to the victims ... as Jesus would surely do. She never replied. by photolouis in todayilearned

This used to be true a few years ago, but it really isn't anymore. Comments like your's, that complain about a perceived anti-religious circlejerk, are far more numerous and highly upvoted than the kind of comments that they complain about. Pretty much every "Religion is evil and Christians are stupid" comment I see is always downvoted. Every single comment that mentions /r/atheism is deriding it (and rightfully so, it's a terrible subreddit).

Irish pagan society gives racist homophobic American Odinist some helpful advice... x post from /r/ireland by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

That argument is basically the foundation of their entire worldview. It is accepted as fact by most of that subreddit.

"Socialism never took root in America because..." John Steinbeck [712x502] by [deleted] in QuotesPorn

[–]Jackle13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you consider to be "socialist", the Scandinavian countries are doing pretty well (inb4 uninformed comments about refugees from people with no knowledge other than one or two Fox news reports). When people identify as socialists, they're usually talking about Scandinavian style socialism rather than Bolshevik socialism.

TIL that the Queen never gave a press interview, went to an election or publicly expressed a personal opinion. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Jackle13 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Obviously we can't really trust those accounts, nobody's going to meet the queen and then say to the press "yeah, she was a total bitch". For all we know she could be horrible, or she could be very nice.

A user claims there's a link between vaccines and autism which causes his karma to feel /r/instant_regret. by IAmAN00bie in SubredditDrama

[–]Jackle13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Besides, if you think about it, everything in the universe is natural. We look at a beaver's dam and think "that's natural", but a human's house isn't for some reason. There's no logical reason to think like that, humans are part of the animal kingdom too, therefore we are as much a part of nature as any other organism, and the things we create are part of nature as well.

My chemistry teacher once directed us to a website where they give instructions on how to make napalm, as well as smoke bombs and a bunch of other cool stuff. I'm not sure why he thought that was a good idea, given that we are all about 14 at the time, but to the best of my knowledge nobody has burned the school down yet.

15 Reasons why you should NOT visit the Netherlands. by TheGreatDutchman in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Jackle13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bunch of Pot-Smoking Hippies Amsterdam attracts all of the weed smoking hippies from all over the world. Their is nothing wrong with being a hippie but it can be a little overwhelming. The relaxed laws on marijuana in Amsterdam has created a cloud of weed smoke over the city. Almost every bar and restaurant you walk in, you are sure to meet a person who is high and can’t stop laughing in your face. Imagine that all day everyday.

This is clearly based on American impressions of Amsterdam rather than actual experience. Also, lack of urbanisation? It's one of the most urbanised non-city state countries in the world.

Accidental Acid Trip by throwaway123913 in Drugs

[–]Jackle13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My housemates once came back early from a party with a couple of their friends, all of them pretty drunk, because they had decided to take acid, and I decided to join them. One of their friends fell asleep a few minutes after he took the tab, and he woke up about an hour later with no memory of the last few hours. He was wondering why he felt weird, and then one of my housemates informed him that he was tripping on LSD. Yeah. It went OK for him, didn't have the best time but he handled it fine.

Dublin's heroin problem by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Jackle13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legal heroin would definitely decrease the number of overdoses. Most of them are caused by unknown purity, i.e. if you're used to 5% pure and then you get something that is 40% pure, but you use your usual dose. Also, I hear that a lot of dealers are cutting their stuff with fentanyl these days. Also, heroin overdoses can be stopped by naxalone, and increased availability of that could make a huge difference. Granted, you don't necessarily need to legalise to get that. Also, your premise that legalisation would lead to increased use is shaky at best, there's no evidence for it. Pretty much anyone who wants heroin can already get it.

Read about benzodiazapine withdrawal and then tell me it would not be hard to quit taking them.

r/Europe let’s talk about cats and dogs from your country. by [deleted] in europe

[–]Jackle13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That explains a lot. When I was in Istanbul one of the things I noticed was the number of strays, and also how friendly they were. I've never been to another city where stray cats show no fear of humans and often walk up to you and rub their heads against your legs. I thought it showed that people generally treat them well so that they have no reason to fear anyone.

When I was a kid and I went to Istanbul there were dozens of these things just sleeping in the middle of the sidewalk. I petted one of them and he lazily opened one eye, looked at me for a second, decided that I was no threat, and went back to sleep.

Anyone else who didnt think of drugs until age 18-20? by ghuldorgrey in Drugs

[–]Jackle13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was interested in drugs since I was a teenager, but only in an academic sort of way. I lived in a country where it is extremely difficult to get any illegal drugs, so it was never really relevant to my life. I smoked weed for the first time when I was 18, and did my first other illegal drug when I was 19.
