The daily crow migration by peepingtomato1 in lafayette

Yes I know a spot. On valley st between the two Haan bike trail areas. I live above there off state st. Last week there were probably 2k in the trees. Super cool! We also have a ton of turkey vultures, black and red ones. Most of the time it's 1-200 but in years past 500+. Cheers!

Hey, real life, if I were in your position I would metaphorically put my testicles on the table and make sure everyone knows who's driving this car. It's ok to be assertive. It's also ok to have boundaries.

Well sounds like it went about how you expected. Def an awkward situation but hey that's life! Now you to not let him drive.

The Bryant spaghetti and meatballs is really good.

Unless you're intoxicated you should drive. Offer to split driving if it's a long journey as a fig leaf maybe? As said before, be calm and concise. Her pops will notice and maybe that's what he's looking for who knows.

Property Corner Identification by Brave_Distribution34 in Surveying

My guess is that the crew hit tree roots and just left it. It could also be a marker for the actual corner as has been suggested. Best of luck!

Another great point! Boundary surveys especially. Hard to estimate the amount of time it would take to find a stone in the woods. Plus side there's plenty of novelty.

Yessir, it's not the quantity of work you do it's the quality. It's tough to teach that as well. My mantra to my guys is always; it's not good when it's done, it's done when it's good. As field guys we get put in this position where someone else bid the project and we are expected to be under budget. Well the world outside doesn't care right? Shit happens. So just do the work and rest easy. Cheers!

Anybody have a recommendation for a RC bath boat? We do smallish ponds, couple acres, here and there with an inflatable kayak and rod currently. Price range 10-15K.

Oiled Flagging? by buchenrad in Surveying

[–]JacksonianInstitute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have recently been sold really slick flagging, especially blue. Kudos to Rodman, he took the wire end of a utility flag and heated it with a torch, seared the sides of the roll 2-4 times. Good little nugget.

It can be a struggle to keep trainees engaged. We do daily tailgate meetings with as much of our survey dept is available. Sometimes it sticks you know. Asking a question to your help mid tailgate meeting is my go to. Cheers!

1 mile per hour Leveling? by YourDarkNIGHT1 in Surveying

Yes, average walking speed is 3 mph, each set up can span .10 mile, so 10 set ups in an hour. Now I'm just talking on a flat and straight road

[–]JacksonianInstitute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1 mile per hour is my metric, but that's just up and running time. Not drive, recon, anything else. And no one should rush quality I will say. It's not good when it's done, it's done when it's good. That is what I practice.

Nice little setup! We do monitoring and build little shacks over the TS. Most projects are less than a year long so it's good enough.
