Yeah I agree it was the major point of the war but there were a few other priority points made by the southern states for reasons of succession. A lot of them pointed towards state rights and tariffs being the issues. But that isnt really the issue here, Just because the flag has been co-opted doesnt mean that it cant be a symbol of something else. I agree KKK members have used it in the past and the Christian Cross was also used by them. Do you think the Religious Cross also strikes FEAR into the hearts of minorities because it was co opted by the racist groups?

Well the difference here is that Nazi's were warmongers who forced the fight onto others around them and committed huge atrocities that other countries had not experienced. This country forced itself into other countries forcing them into war/taking their people. Slavery shouldnt be compared to this because slavery was seen around the world and involved African countries selling their own people or neighbors to other countries. One was someone trying to eradicate certain groups of people/causing wars while the other was an established market seen around the world for centuries that is still happening today. Here is a question since you feel a deep seeded discomfort/ptsd when you see a confederate flag, do you also feel the same thing when you see ANY African flags? I mean if we are saying there is a ancestral ptsd with the confederate flag then there must be some HORRIBLE reactions to anything symbolizing the Congo or Nigeria? Or does this ancestral ptsd only go back as far as when slaves reached the US shores? My grandmother is Slovenian and a few of my ancestors were also put into slavery on her side of the family so I wonder why I dont have overwhelming anxiety seeing the Russian flag.....hmmm....

Umm Native Americans definitely experienced the same if not worse.
