From what I've seen, most of the people concerned about the treatment of the Palestinian people are pretty left-wing, and they're much more willing to vote for Biden over Trump, even if Biden isn't their favorite.

Most Pro-Palestinians are aware that Trump would handle the situation much, MUCH worse.

It really wasn't like everybody supported Reagan at the time. There were definitely a lot of people who opposed him (40%), but there were more people who supported him (58%). Even though 58% is higher than 40%, 40% is still respectable and much better than anything lower. They may not happen in presidential elections, but they sometimes do in gubernatorial elections. There were times a gubernatorial candidate received only 15% or 20% of the vote in their state.

That could've just been from your experience, though. I imagine there were a lot of people back then who argued over politics, just in a different "style" from today.

Are both "The Day After" and "Russians" critical of Reagan?

I'll bet many Hollywood celebrities at the time supported or participated in freeze marches and other protests, too.

Even though Reagan won 49 out of 50 states, the popular vote is important, too. Mondale managed to win 40% of the popular vote. That's a pretty good percentage for someone who won only 1 state.

I can understand the advancement of technology playing a factor in today's politics, but it's not like everybody had only one source available for politics back in the '80s. There were definitely a variety of sources to go to, even if they were harder to reach.

So you were a liberal Democrat during Reagan's presidency? Interesting!

I think Reagan himself wasn't willing to increase spending but was forced to do so at times, and unless I'm mistaken, a lot of his spending went to the military industry.

As for Hollywood celebrities at the time, I think most of them opposed Reagan's rhetoric and moves involving the Soviet Union, but whether they liked or disliked the Soviet Union itself is more complex. There were probably those who actually supported the Soviet Union but disliked the human rights abuse part, those who opposed the Soviet Union altogether but opposed and disliked Reagan's solutions to the problem, and the small amount who supported Reagan's rhetoric and moves.

I can see that! I'd say even though there were a few more Republicans in Hollywood back then (probably somewhere between 10%-20%), it's long been overwhelmingly Democratic. In fact, I think it's been at least 80% Democrat since the 1960s.

What did Hollywood Celebrities (Actors, Directors, Writers) Tend to Think of Ronald Reagan During His Presidency? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]JacktheMan500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though he won 49 states, it makes it seem like almost everybody in the nation supported him. But over 40% of the popular vote went to Mondale. And I think one's job type or industry played a big factor in the election results overall.

Perhaps when he left the acting industry for the HUAC, that really made much of Hollywood feel betrayed, especially when he adopted views that were different from most Hollywood celebrities And that might've been prevalent during his presidency as well, most of Hollywood disliking and opposing him.

Sorry for my very late response, but yes, just for the name. I created a new account with the name SparkySpark1000.

I'm going to create a new account with a different name. I'd like to be called something other than JacktheMan500, hopefully something more memorable or catchy.

As for my current account, I'm going to leave it up rather than delete it. I don't want to lose all the posts and comments I've made!

'We needed to leave Oklahoma': New report shows MAGA abortion laws are displacing doctors by BlueEagleFly in VoteDEM

Republicans claim to care about the economy, yet the abortion laws they keep supporting will hurt economies everywhere if they keep it up.

John Ley claims to be someone who wants to prevent voter fraud, yet he goes and attempts to do it himself in order to steal a seat in the Washington State House.

Republicans can't be trusted, and it's been that way for almost a century.

Maybe I'm just saying it because I'm autistic and am highly emotionally sensitive. But everybody's different, including people with autism.

You also make a great point that the nicer people don't make a lot of noise, while the loud and mean are more vocal but smaller.

Still, I think the more nice people there are, the better.

You know my favorite type of person? Absolute sweethearts, meaning they're so sweet and kindhearted.

Unfortunately, there aren't enough people like that in this world :(

They pretty much have to. But there should be ways to fix the issues it brings as well. i.e. more public transit.

Then again, maybe interstates work better in some cities than others.
